From Twitter

Jay Bruce OPS vs. LH Starter .709
Miguel Cairos OPS .vs LH starter .702

Anyone wanna make bets that Dusty has zero clue about Cairos either being that low, or Bruces being that high?

It must be nice to know you are old, declining in your skills at your profession and know that your boss is so clueless that you will continue to get to perform your daily job even though it is not in the best interest of your company to do so.

The Reds should pound Narveson with a batting order drawn out of a hat.

Should being the key word, after last night performance I have a bad feeling about today and see the Reds only getting 2-3 hits and scoring only 1 run.

A win today and we are 4-2 on the road trip over a loss and a 3-3 road trip..

Dusty is correct to ride the hot hand in putting Cairo higher than Bruce.

July:

Cairo: .317/.451/.488/.939
Bruce: .193/.236/.265/.501

If Bruce heats up, then maybe swapping them would be in order. But right now, Cairo is producing and Bruce is in a horrible slump. We need to win TODAY.

Cairos career has been a horrible slump.
Like I said, we need to win TODAY. Based on recent play, I like my chances with Cairo to win TODAY than I do with Bruce. I know Bruce is going to have a much better career than Cairo has, but we're talking about today's game, not how a guy's career ends up. I'll take my chances with a hot hitter in this case.

Maker_84

I like the Heisey replacement of Stubbs, this is a pretty good lineup. With Hanigan back we actually have some solid depth

Id care to listen if I knew that's why Dusty does what he does. I know why you are saying what you are saying, and I do understand it, but there is nothing to suggest Dusty does it for that reason.

I would be more willing to bet he thinks since Cairo is a RH he is a better hitter vs lh than bruce is. I would bet money on it if we had a way to go into Dustys brain and prove it.

Like I said though I understand why it could make sense. I just look at how Dusty never noticed Phillips struggles against RH pitchers, dared to really move Cabrera out of the top 2 in the order despite his awful hitting. If you were making the line up I could understand. I just really doubt Dusty has a reason other than what he assumes.

RedsFanInBama
07-28-2010, 01:53 PM
So even if it's the right move, you're against it because it's for the wrong reason?

Regardless, neither you or I know for sure why the move is being made. And Dusty has no responsibility to fill us in, either. He's managing to win the game, period. That should be all we need to know. Of course we can disagree, obviouisly.

I dont believe its honestly the right or wrong move. If I wanted to say what the right move is I would suggest that Stubbs should be starting today because hes hit LH pitching pretty darn well for his career.

Are you watching the game? Bruce was safe at second by a mile and for some dopey reason slid in like he was trying to break up a double play and went over the bag. Getting Bruce into scoring position there was smart baseball. Bruce's slide? I don't know what the hell he was thinking.

Why? Stealing at tthe wrong time is more often the fault of the baserunner. I agree the double steal came from the bench, but Bruce looked totally on him... and that said, why wasnt that the right time? He had the base easy if he could hook. I know it was only one out, but why not get Bruce in scoring position in that situation?

I thought the double steal was curious. Cabrera was already in scoring position. If it was late and the Reds were down two it would have made more sense.

So you're going to complain about Bruce being out when you don't even know how it happened? It wasn't Dusty's fault there. It was your boy's. Furthermore, why was Bruce trying to steal second there a bad call? Please, explain that.

Stubbs not stealing more, and Stubbs not leveling his swing out for more grounders puzzle me as well.

Maybe he just does not trust his reads on the pitchers.

How many times have we faced this pitcher this season? He's very slow to the plate. When Cairo steals second base and makes it easily, there is no reservation about sending Bruce as well. And like I said, it was a good call.

Your basic argument is that because we haven't stolen bases much this season, we shouldn't attempt to swipe them now, even if the pitcher is very slow to the plate and has a tell on his pick-off move.

You're completely ignoring the fact that Bruce easily swiped the base and because of his own inability to stop a slide was out. This guy obviously is slow to the plate, as evidenced by Phillips and Cairo stealing second as well. Trying to steal a guy into scoring position is not a bad call, particularly when you have something on the pitcher that tells you he can be stolen on (which the Reds obviously do based on the volume of steals).

And is us not having any runs not a good enough reason for trying to get into scoring position?
