View Full Version : October Beards? Anyone?

Edskin

This is the only place where I could possibly share this information and not get completely laughed at...noticed I said "completely." Anyway, I've decided that it's time to really dive into this push for October.

It's July 29th and the Reds are officially alone in first place. As long as this remains the case, I will not shave (nasty neck hair is excluded from this). Each day, I wil examine the standings...if the Reds are either leading the Central or the wild card, I will not shave. If they fall behind, I will shave immediately and the process will start again.

Anyone with me? Bueller?

Also, I would like the team to join me as well....so Dusty, Joey, Ramon, Scott...if you are listening......

We can even post pics in this thread (if we dare). The more Grizzly Adams photos, the better!

I don't think some of the Reds are capable of growing beards. Stubbs, Bruce, Heisey, Bailey...just to name a few.

I wish I could but I grow facial hair (especially around the chin) like Shaggy from Scooby Doo. If I had a job where I was the boss I could probably get away with it but sadly I do not.

Hanigan might be another guy to add to that list.
The guys who can't grow beards will just have to super glue fake beards on.

I have been thinking of getting a Reds tattoo on my arm if they make the playoffs. But then I am afraid they will go on another 10 year drought and i will look like an idiot with the logo of a losing franchise tattoo'd on my arm

I tried to grow a beard back in 1984. My wife told me I looked like a rat. It was so full of holes that I looked like a drunk, really (which is more truth than fiction). So I will not join you, but I'm with you in spirit. Maybe I'll show support by not cutting my hair. I've always wanted to go back to my college years. Nah.

You did know that was a bobblehead and not a microphone, right? BTW, I've been doing this

BTW, I've been doing this since 1978, but we finished second that year. I did bring us one World Championship and a couple of other play-off appearances.

(Sorry I won't go the other way, my wife's sister told her 30 years ago she didn't want to see me without the beard - she never has). And yes, I did have a beard during the other BRM's years, starting growing one after freshman year in high school, except for during the school year - although I was hollered at enough about only shaving once a week while at Moeller)

We're officially guaranteed to be in first place when the Cards arrive on Monday. And as a side note, we are now tied in the standings with the Giants, which could become huge down the road if the wild card comes in to play.

My scruff is visible for sure right now and I'm hoping to be looking seriously scraggly from here on out.

I hate to be the killjoy bearing rules of playoff beards here, but I always thought the entire point of a playoff beard was that it began AT the start of the playoffs. And this way everyone begins at exactly the same time.

Isn't starting now, many weeks ahead of playoff time and with the Reds hardly a definite, completely jinxing the superstition?

I went ahead and shaved today....first time a razor touched my face in two months...pretty sure my wife had was getting ready to file for divorce...

All along the idea was to keep the scruff going as long as the mjo was good and to shave in an effort to reverse and re-start. Well, figured I wouldn't have many more chances to "reverse and restart" if I didn't act now.

It's my last act of desperation for 2010.
