Nice trade for the Dodgers. Dewitt is terrible.

So is Theriot.

I don't think DeWitt's terrible. He's been jerked around a lot at positions and from the majors to the minors and hasn't had a full season as a starter. He's got potential to provide solid production for little to no money.

Yep he is. But kinda surprised that's all the Cubs could get for Lilly.

Who were the prospects?

Isn't Lilly a Class A FA at the end of the year? Seems like the two draft picks would have been a better deal for the Cubs. $5M salary dump I guess ($4M + $1M) and a few years of control for Dewitt vs. the picks.

So NL Central has moved out Oswalt, Berkman, Ludwick and now Lilly in the last 48 hours.

You don't offer arbitration to declining players coming off of large deals, unless you want to get stuck with a huge salary.

This year's edition of sending salary to the Coasts.

Of course not, but Lilly has been solid and since the beginning of 2009 he's above his career norms. <1.1 WHIP, well over a 3K/BB rate and >7K/9IP

He's easily worth 10M in 2011. Arbitration would be a no brainer, and he'd turn it down for sure.
