#Reds are calling up Juan Francisco or he's vacating in Pittsburgh. Saw him in the hotel. Hitting .286 overall, .302, 11 HRs, 28 RBI in July

Interesting....who plays SS if Janish is injured/out? Can he play SS or 2nd base even?

Cairo for 1 game then they DL Janish and bring someone else up?

Chris D has to be throwing his arms up in the air at this point

I don't see how he can complain on this move. He doesn't play infield.

He'll be up shortly. It's just a matter of who it will be going down. Two weeks ago I was sure it would be Nix. Now I think it will end up being Stubbs.

So lets see we lose a SS, and we call up a average 3rd/lf to replace him? okay...

yeah I get what your saying, just seems to me that he has earned it, Janish can play SS, let CD bet one of your OF'ers and call up Juan, or Valakia is Janish gets hurt or call them up next week before the Cardinals series....i want CD to see some MLB pitching before the cards come to town. I am not content with what we have out there right now....CD, if hitting close to the hot hand he has been in AAA, then he makes this club better.....and by a big margin....

I am just not so sure Juan makes us so much better sitting on the bench....but you know what, we are in 1st place and I am going to sit back and trust this Front Office to keep us there.

this is the reasoning

Cairo is now playing first every day.
Rolen is going to need a day here or there
Reds back up 3rd baseman, with cairo basically starting the next few days, is no one
If Janish gets hurt, Cairo plays at most 1 game at SS. Ramon will play first, Rolen at 3rd.
They then DL Janish and bring up the back up SS then.

Once Votto is healed enough to play everyday Juan is probably going down for the SS backup.

I think Juan is here for a few days maximum.

Reds think Janish getting hurt is less likely than them needing a back up 3rd baseman while Votto is out.

cant say I disagree with it for the moment.

Yeesh, this is gonna suck if Votto is out for more than a couple game.

Totally forgot. Reds backup SS?

Brandon Phillips.

all that really does it move Cairo to 2nd. honestly its probably a lateral move

Since whomever was called up was going to basically sit on the bench and be there just in case, I kinda like having Francisco's bat available as a late-game PH. I have no problem with the decision.

Why not valaika? Id rather see him at ss than janish.

To me this means votto is out for more than we think.

NOT GOOD

I like it.

I'd also like Dickerson up and Stubbs down even more....Walt.

As for Cisco, I see him going off in Pittsburgh and Chicago.

Which wrist did Votto sprain? Does anyone know?

The reasoning behind this:

Juan Francisco can really hit.

I have to agree. If they are here for insurance it is nice to have a big stick come off the bench late in the game.

Any chance the Reds bring up against the mediocre pitching we will be facing the next 2 series to get him a few at bats hoping we can showcase him as trade bait??? Just a thought.

Dickerson is not coming up anytime soon. He is not even on the 40 man roster.

Hes on the 40 man just on the 60 day DL. Players on the 60 day DL dont count as a roster spot, but they certainly are on the 40 man. Its an exemption.

He is on the 40 man roster and there is a exemption but to bring him up they will have to free up a spot by taking someone off the 40 man roster.

I know how to read. On the website's 40 man roster there are two astrisks by his name. They denote that he is not on the roster. If he is on the roster why would the Reds say he is not. The truth is he is under contract to the Reds, but is currently playing in Louisville without a contract to the Bats. So the Reds don't have to purchase the contract later on.

GIDP

Because he technically isnt because of the exemption. all 60 day DL guys have the 2 asterisk because it denotes taht they are not an active 40 man roster member. Everyone listed on the roster is actually on the 40 man roster, just some are inactive.

Valaika is still day-to-day with a tweaked knee.

Maybe that explains why he didn't get the initial callup.

What happens if we want to pinch hit for our SS who bats 2nd in the 8th inning? Oh wait we saw that tonight. I don't like this move, regardless of what good comes of it. Cairo at SS is bad.

BUT... you Dusty haters can not blame him for this one.

Dont bat your likely worst hitter 2nd so he isnt getting his 5th PA of the game before everyone else in the line up.

Why wouldn't you slide Phillips over to SS and let Migeul play 2nd?
