I challenge any of the Dusty supports out there to explain this. Don't get me wrong I am all for Janish to be playing, but batting second? Does this not prove Dusty has no ability to construct a lineup what so ever.

The only rational, reasonable, sane or logical explanation is that Dusty has 162 lineup cards all with the same lineup written in. And if has to make a change he wants to scratch out as few names as possible because he is a neat freak. (I am kidding.)

Shortstops hit second. Simple as that.

It's Dusty being Dusty. Janish will probably go 2-3 with a BB. When Dusty makes these moves that make no sense they always work out. See Cairo batting 3rd last night.

I don't agree with it, but aren't you the same guy that complains about OCab in the 2 hole because of his low OBP? Janish has one of the best on the team, you should be thrilled.

Until we lose a series after the break, I could care less if Dusty has a Homer Bailey bobblehead batting 2nd. The team is producing, shouldn't that be reason enough?

Maybe it should, but it doesn't really bother me to see Janish hit 2nd.

I bet that bobblehead would walk four times. Nice idea.

The reason I don't really mind Janish batting second is because it isn't Corey Patterson or Willy Taveras.

Janish playing is a good thing, Janish batting second is a horrible thing...

C'mon folks. This is just Toothpick 101: Spread out the bats or the lower part of the line-up will be too weak.

its basically janish crybabys that have been crying all year that poor janish should be our starter and how dumb dusty is for playing OC. Making up an excuse before he even bats as to why he's not going to perform out there so that they can blame it on something else other than janish just cant hit.

This might be the greatest post in the history of Red Zoan.

Smaller sample size but respectable OBP - I say it's a good move myself....for now until proven wrong. Glad to see Janish get the start, I just wish that it didn't come with OCab's injury. If OCab was rested more frequently, maybe it doesn't happen.

no, wrong again. Playing Janish is a good thing, batting him second because that is where your other SS batted is just stupid. Bat Heisey second, hell take a chance and bat Hernandez second, but put someone there who is a contact hitter. If you can't see that...

That would require having a manager with a brain, and well we know ours doesn't.

Yeah, because Heisey is such a contact hitter. Seriously, all you do is complain. How bout you enjoy the team winning.

The issue is having weaker hitters in the top of your order and better hitters lower. It makes no sense no matter how you slice it. Batting Janish and Cabrera when he isnt streaking 2nd, and batting Cairo because of a few handful of ABs 3rd is as silly as hitting your pitcher first because you want to get his out of the way quick.

There is no reason for Janish to have the chance to get more PA than Heisey, Bruce, Hernandez, Gomes, or Rolen.

same is with Cabrera. you simply shouldnt give your weakest hitters so many plate attempts if you can avoid it.

Dusty doesnt avoid it, he actually strategies ways to get out. Such as he uses bad hitters 2nd so he can sac bunt his lead off hitter to 2nd. He purposely finds ways to get guys out. Its a managing flaw of Dusty. He doesnt look at how 2 high on base guys can get on. He only sees the scenario in which 1 of the 2 gets on base.

Why couldn't this have went in the other five "Dusty can't make out a lineup" threads you have started? I mean really do you have to start one everyday?

I think you're pushing the envelope here, seriously.

Why? At what point this season has Dusty shown any ability to think outside of the box? He refuses to give guys a shot because that not how he played the game. Orlando was the SS and batted second, so now Janish is the SS so he has to bat second. Why not give Heisey a shot there, or even better put Hernandez or Hanigan in that spot and see what happens.

Because I refuse to sit back and watch a magical possible season be ruined by Dusty. We are 13 games over .500 when we ahve the talent to be 20+ games over .500. Do you think the Padres are that much a better team then the Reds? yet look where they are? The Cards have 2 pitchers and Albert and that is it, yet we can get zero seperation from them. This team is winning, great, but they are not doing it on the level their talent says they should.

Because it's plug-n-play, that's Dusty's lineup style. Whatever takes the least maneuvering. First baseman's out? The new first baseman bats 3rd. Shortstop's out? New shortstop bats second, no question. Center fielder out? New CF bats 7th. Catcher bats 8th, NO MATTER WHAT. Never seen a manager where FIELD POSITION dictates batting order rather than, you know, the players themselves, but such is life with Dusty. Makes lineup-making easier, that's for sure. I try not to notice anymore.

Do know, that if, for whatever reason, there was a late lineup change tonight, and Brandon Phillips was out of the lineup, and Ryan Hanigan was in, our #3 hitter would magically be the leadoff hitter, because he'd be moving from first base to second base (Cairo). Hernandez would cover first with Cairo at second, so magically our 8 hitter is good enough to be the 3 hitter. This system is fool-proof!
