Homer is sharp in the 1st. 2 Ks and an easy come backer.

He's working 94-95 and hit 96 twice.

1st K was after 5 straight FB and he dropped a big curve in for a strike call.

I had planned to see Lynchburg at Kinston tonight but opted to stay home with the forecast being what it is. Durham is in a rain delay and the rain is headed for Kinston. Right now Kinston and Lynchburg are scoreless in the second. Partch is starting for the Hillcats.

I think we all forget how good Bailey was down the stretch last year.

It looks like he is healthy again.

He might yet contribute for the Reds this year.

After six, Kinston takes a 1-0 lead on the Hillcats. The rain front has stalled about 45 minutes from Kinston. Barring a barrage of offense, this one should go uniterrupted.

I must say, I'm getting a bit excited about the possibility of seeing Louisville return to Durham for the playoffs.

I am also exited about the Bats possibly making the playoffs again, but not so much about the possiblity of them playing in durham - bad things seem to always happen to the Bats there...

I can't see any reason why Homer should not start on the 10th against the Cardinals. I would let him go one more inning here, at most.

I am really coming around to the idea of DL'ing Leake right now to keep his innings low and help him to get things figured out.

Then, I like the idea of bringing up Chapman in his spot and then DL'ing Springer and bringing up Burton.

I would skip the absent spot in the rotation until we had five games in five days. At this point, I would bring up Bailey and let him take over Leake's spot in the rotation and send down Smith, Bray, Chapman or Burton.

Hopefully Leake would be ready to go in September and he could take over for Wood at this point if necessary.

I really think Bailey will be solid for the Reds down the stretch if afforded the opportunity.

I agree. Demote/DL Leake and let Bailey take his spot.

I know Triple A playoffs are like one of the least meaningful things in the world, but living in Louisville, I would really like to see the Bats do something in the playoffs for a chance and stop losing to freaking Durham. That's the way the matchups look like at this point. Of course this is a very, very small hope compared to the Reds making the playoffs.

The VSL Reds swept a doubleheader from the Rays, 4-2 and 3-1. If I have the order of the games right (and have reason to think I do), Torreyes appeared as a pinch-hitter in the first game. In the second, he had two hits and then left after he was hit by a pitch. Orlando Chiquin pitched one scoreless inning in the first game and three in the second.

Nice late-inning rally for Lynchburg to win, 5-1. Cody Puckett had three hits. Curtis Partch, Justin Freeman and Donnie Joseph all pitched well.

Justin Freeman has come on extremely strong lately. For the season, he has 48 K and only 7 BB in 51.2 innings.

The DSL Reds won, 5-3, in spite of getting only three hits. And only one of the runs was unearned. And no homers. Shortstop Ronald Bueno, 17, had a 2-run triple.

Also odd: The DSL Reds' ace, 18-year-old Abel De Los Santos, went seven strong innings (7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER) while striking out nobody. Prior to today, he was averaging nearly a K an inning. De Los Santos is 7-1 with a 1.76 ERA.

As much as I hate to say it, I don't see anything that suggests this trend will change. This season is looking like last season an awful lot.

The Durham Bulls got washed out. They'll play two today. I can't believe Lynchburg and Kinston didn't get the same stuff. The Hillcats used the Freeman/Joseph combo at the end last night which is pretty reliable stuff.
