Walked him. Get out there, Dusty. You idiot.

Dusty won't do it because he's a frickin' players manager, but a GOOD manager would take him out just to make a statement. I'd have had Rhodes up and brought him in now just to say "throw strikes or sit down".

CWRed

Most other managers do the same stupid things. Problem with Dusty is he always seems to leave a guy in at least one batter too long. Coco should have been gone after the 2nd walk. And Dusty should tell him. You walk guys, you don't play...at all.

But "He's my closer, dude."

TheBigLebowski
08-07-2010, 03:55 PM
Just sickening. Bad, bad baseball. I have tried and tried to withhold on the Cordero bashing, but he deserves every bit of it - especially when one considers what he is getting paid.

I know money talks in baseball, but Walt didn't sign FC. Demote him to setup duty and have someone else close ballgames. Cordero is just awful.

Leaving him in? When did he leave him in?

He had Masset warming up ASAP. Brought him in, and game over. So, no credit for Dusty if they win, but its all on him if they lose.

What about the move of playing Nix / Stubbs today? Random luck of the draw? No credit to Dusty.

This place is so negative it's not even funny.

Remember the part when it took 3 straight walks and a hit batter to get him out of the game? Yeah .. he shouldn't have been in that long. Then again, he shouldn't have been in at all, but I guess we can afford to play the salary game with players and manage by who gets the biggest paycheck.

just venting. we've known we needed bullpen help forever this season...nothing was done but bringing in old fogey's

Actually, since the break our bullpen has been excellent. Smith, Masset, Ondrusek, and Rhodes have all been very good. And the old fogey signings were not bad decisions at all.

This team is in first place and we did NOT mortage our future to get there....

a few years back a GM made the ambitious move of giving away the future for some BP help... that did not turn out so well.

Our closer is struggling and may need to be replaced... but the organization has a few candidates in house that might be excellent replacements.

The bottom line is that Walt was not going to overpay for a marginal improvement to the 25 man roster... and so far it looks like he made the right decision.

i'd call it passionate, not negative. cordero was blowing up again, so the fans blew up. who are you? george grande, everything sunshine and rainbows?

Haha, that's legit funny. No I"m not George Grande, but I mean come on, the Reds are in first place, the players are (for the most part) coming through in clutch situations, the front office is on the right track, the farm is overall positive (maybe inconsistent, but still).

i guess i dont understand why you would expect fans not to blow up and freak out like they did when cordero did what he did. its natural, all fans would do that. you make it sound like we're all idiots for getting upset cordero isnt doing his job

He had converted 12 of 13 coming into today, I was hopeful he was coming around. He still might, but it's risky because we're in a division race.

True, but it's never a 1,2,3 inning he always puts the tying run on. Heck I have a theory that if opposing teams would just not swing the bat at all Coco couldn't strike them out (today is almost an example of that).

This.

Our bullpen needs help? Since when? Earlier in the year, sure. But since mid June or so, they, along with the entire staff have for the most part been lights out.

Our only bullpen problem at the moment is Cordero, and maybe to a lesser extent Bray. And we don't just have old fogies in the minors, we also have Burton and Chapman.

Great win, Reds....great win. I will enjoy my Saturday with this.

Maybe the Cards will actually lose a game. 1 1/2 games in first at this point would be better than intercourse, unless the recipient is named Blake Lively.

Welsh was saying you can't change your closer now because the other guys are too unproven to take his spot in that pressure situation. Are you freaking serious? That's like the most retarded thing I've ever heard.

I'm not defending Cordero in any way shape or form. Yeah, he really blew it today, but thankfully, Dusty pulled him and Masset was effective.

I know baseball is an extremely emotional sport, as every pitch has game changing implications. I would just caution people (myself included) to step back and breathe, and not freak out at every little single thing.

Look back at the game thread. Negative post after negative post. Some warranted, some not. Volquez, Bruce, Stubbs, Dusty, Cordero, etc etc etc.

You have to understand the context. Reds' fans have been pummeled to death by this team's showing for the past decade. We expect things to turn out badly.
That being said, in light of Cordero's appearances basically all year long, how do you not have someone ready when he starts his usual crap? To not have someone ready would have been negligent. It was not a great managerial move to have Masset ready.
Coco needs to be on a strict two-walk limit.

Two bases on balls and you get a seat on the bench.

If your closer is head and shoulders better than everyone else it would be one thing. You can let a game like this happen from time to time. But CoCo could well be the worst reliever on this team. If not the worst, not far from it.

How do I not understand the context? I've followed the Reds my entire life.

I wouldn't say we, as Reds fans, are as tortured as the Cubs, or even the Indians or Pirates. Yeah, it's been awhile. It was a horrible decade. But this year the ship has apparently been righted and I think that the team from top to bottom has earned our trust.

Most of it has earned mine. I have zero confidence in Francisco Cordero. None.
