Mesoraco just hit his 12th homerun for the Mudcats and his 22nd of the season, wow. Carolina leads 4-0 in the 2nd.

Mes had 3 or 4 pretty bad games that dropped his BA to the .270s from over .300 and now hes mashing again.

2 out bases loaded hit by Griffin in the 4th

2-0 Bats

With there only being 30 games remaining, it's doubtful that Mesoraco will reach 30 homers for the season but 25-27 is looking very possibl. I'd like to see him get some atbats in Louisville if they make the playoffs.

Frazier doubles in a run and another run scores on a throwing error.

4-0 Bats

Didn't think we'd be seeing this. But as of the seventh inning, Alonso (.295) is actually hitting higher than Dorn (.294) on the season.

After four, Carolina's lead is 7-2. I, for one, sure didn't think Sappelt could maintain the pace he's been hitting at. But he's 3 for 3 tonight, and now up to .360. The second-place guy in the Southern League (Tony Campana) is at .332.

At the very least, Sappelt is a potentially helpful piece to help facilitate deals this off-season.

I've always seen Griffin as being minor league-utility-journeyman-filler, but he's really hitting pretty well in Louisville.

Anyone think that he was one of the reasons they saw Sutton as expendable?

The DSL Reds won their ninth straight, 14-7. Carlos Sanchez had three more hits and is now at .372, second in the league, with a .459 OBP.

In spite of the slugfest, Reds starter Wandy Peralta was very good: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K. He's a lefty who just turned 19, and his ERA is 2.45.

No I think its because those types of players for the most part are replaceable. I doubt the Reds would have liked to give up Sutton on waivers if they could avoid it but I doubt it was anymore more than numbers game.

Agree, but I'm thinking that the way Griffin is playing probably helped to ease their pain of making that decision.

That Louisville lineup is loaded, even without Francisco.

AZL Reds are up 1-0 in the 4th inning. Ronald Torreyes is making his AZL debut, leading off and playing 2B. He is currently 0-2.

Josh Ravin has thrown 3 scoreless innings.

columbus will not contend for a playoff birth. the bats have more MLB talent than the clippers do AAA talent.

columbus will not contend for a playoff birth. the bats have more MLB talent than the clippers do AAA talent.

As of now, it looks like Columbus is collapsing, but the Bats are still 3.5 back behind them, and are only 3.5 up in the wild card, so the Bats are just as close to falling out of the wild card lead as they are to taking the division. However, they do have both the talent and momentum to complete their playoff run. The key factor to the Bats playoff success, if they reach the playoffs, would be if the Reds wait until after the playoffs to do the September call-ups, as they have in the last two seasons. Of course, I expect Chapman and Isringhausen to be called up before the playoffs, but if the Reds call up guys like Burton, Balentien, Corky, and Maloney, it could limit the Bats chances to win it all, as callups did last year (due to Reds injuries). Hopefully this will not happen.

Yeah it will be very interesting. I know the Reds want Corky up, but he's not on the 40 man. I don't see Balentien going up due to the 40man issue. Maloney should be safe. Burton, Chapman and Valaika are locks IMO.

Guess the party's over for the AZL. Torreyes found his legs with hits the next two times up. The AZL Reds lead 4-1.

A nice rehab start for Ravin, followed by two strong innings from Carlos Contreras. Together, they've fanned 9 through 7 innings.

Yeah, about this time the last few years, we've started looking toward those offseason deals. nice to have some meaningful late-season games to look forward to though.

I do think this will be an interesting Winter though. :D

Daniel Corcino has been promoted to Dayton per the DDN:

Also Lynchburg-bound is pitcher Blair Carson. Filling one of the spots, up from Billings, is right-hander Daniel Corcino, who is expected to start Monday.

This is a day old but worth posting. It looks like switch-hitting is coming along nicely for Hamilton.

Oh, yeah, Billy Hamilton also hit his first career home run. Left-handed no less. It came as a surprise to just about everybody; most of the left-handed hits from the switch-hitting Hamilton have gone the other way to left field.

His OPS is chasing down .800 as well. Props to Frazier, keep it up!
