The Reds have been chugging along at a torrid pace for two months, winning nearly every series in which they've played. And on Sunday, they'll have a chance to go for their first sweep in nearly six weeks. Cincinnati has already taken two games from Chicago, giving the Reds victories in 11 of the past 13 series they've played.

This is cool and interesting:

The Reds and Yankees are the only big league teams with winning records in each of the season's months. MLB.com

Soto is still out of Chicago lineup:

"We were down to one catcher, Soto wasn't available," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said after the game Saturday.

Koyie Hill caught Saturday and will be behind the plate Sunday as well.

I think it's safe to say this is an extra special Sunday lineup, and one we'll probably only see once this year.

Id like to see Heisey in left, and stubbs in center. I guess Dusty wants him to keep his confidence going, instead of going 0-4 with 3Ks today.

I was actually worried that we would also see Hernandez at 1st with Votto also getting a day off, especially after Dusty's warning yesterday that we would be seeing a MUCH different look.

Dusty stated yesterday there are a couple guys banged up, I am assuming Phillips and maybe Rolen is still nursing his hamstring a bit. And he wants everyone fresh and ready to go for the Cards series. Can't complain about that.

Struck out 10 last time out though, and we tend to k a lot. Hope we can hit some balls solid and out of the park. Hope wood pitches well too so that the bullpen is at full strength vs the cards.

Disappointed to not see Nix in the lineup against this Diamond guy. A power arm from the right side and Nix is swinging a hot stick.

I had the same thought, but then remembered Nix laying out for that catch. Maybe he's a little sore.

I actually don't mind today's lineup.

I also think Heisey's stay in the lineup might be mandated from upper management. Thankfully.

Good to see Bruce with the big 2-run double in the first inning. He/we needed that.

Will forever be the answer to the trivia question: Who started opening day in the first game at GABP?

The Jimmy Haynes signing was the epitome of the Jim Bowden era. Garbage retread pitcher who had a 4.50+ ERA but got signed to a contract due to him being a "winning pitcher."

On a side note...here's a clip from an old article I found:

Dateline: CINCINNATI Right-hander Paul Wilson signed a two-year deal with the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, a move that general manager Jim Bowden said would give the Reds a proven fourth starter.
"Paul has the ability to pitch 180 to 200 innings a year," Bowden said. "We felt it was important to add another proven starter to join Ryan Dempster, Jimmy Haynes and Danny Graves in the rotation."

Wilson, 29, who was not tendered a contract by Tampa Bay, was 6-12 with a 4.83 ERA last season for the Devil Rays. He pitched a career- high 193 2-3

I just threw up in my mouth a little...

Well the only way Gomes walks is if you throw him 4 balls so far away from the zone that even he can't go after them. Wouldn't say he is being more selective cause of CDick

5 runs crossed the plate today on outs. That's why I'll probably always be an advocate of putting the ball in play whenever you can. I mean the Cubs have helped with some iffy defense, but still, that's doing a good job of staying within yourself and putting some good controlled swings on the ball.
