Rolen seems to be a part time player by now. Off day Thursday, Day off Sunday. Will we see him more soon or is this all he is capable of.

No he has a hammy issue that Dusty is giving him extra time off from.

I do think you'll see more of Francisco from here on out to keep Rolen rested and healthy. And next year, barring a total collapse of Francisco, I see Francisco making the roster as the part time left handed third base option.

I like what Dusty is doing with Rolen. It seems like for every 3 series he gets 2 days off.

I'd bet money he's in there the next 3 days for the Cards.

Yep. That would make sense.

He doesn't play day games after a night game to keep him fresh and rested. Sometimes they will mix it up and give him the night off before the day game. A lot of it also has to do with when the next off day is.

The Reds are going to need Rolen healthy if they get into the playoffs. Keeping him rested throughout the season doesn't bother me one bit.

Props to Dusty for his handling of Rolen.

Rolen hasn't been the healthiest player over the past 5 years or so, it would benefit the Reds to give him a lot of rest.

How long is Rolen signed for anyway?

I believe 2 more season after this for about 6-7 million a year. He was originally due 11 mil this season, but took a pay cut this season for an extension. Smart move by both parties.

I think with Rolen it is best to rest him. He is a 120-130 game kind of player at this point in his career.

It's definitely best to rest him as much as possible. With the way Cairo has filled in, and even Francisco in his few games, there isn't a huge dropoff offensively. Obviously they aren't as solid defensively, but they are solid backups at this point. Rest him 2-3 days a week and keep him healthy and on top of his game.

The comments I have read are spot on! Scottie with his aggresive play
over the years, several surgeries, needs the rest, to be at his best. I have seen
him over the years, play hurt, then get really hurt! Dusty is doing a good job with him. When he played with the Jays, I believe they rested him even more,
and for a while he was carrying about a 320 BA, at the highest about 333.

If we keep winning, I have no problem with it.
