I put this in a thread in the ORG too. Here's Phillips' thoughts on the Cardinals.

Phillips fouled a ball off his shin Saturday in Chicago and missed Sunday’s game. But he was in Monday’s linekup and said, “I’d play against these guys with one leg. We have to beat these guys. I hate the Cardinals. All they do is ***** and moan about everything, all of them, they’re little *****es, all of ‘em. I really hate the Cardinals. Compared to the Cardinals, I love the Chicago Cubs. Let me make this clear - I hate the Cardinals.”

He didn't say the Reds were going to go out and beat them up and take all 3 games and spit in their faces...

Just say he didn't like them...

Doesn't need to walk the walk on that statement.... IMO

Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, but what an awfully stupid at bat by Phillips.

2 outs. Down 4. Last batter just took a walk. Need 2 more base runners to send Votto up to the plate as the tying run. Phillips takes ball 1. And then hacks away at Ball 2.

Horrendous, undisciplined, and unprofessional AB.

traderumor
08-09-2010, 10:55 PM
Expected outcome, only question was what the score would be.

Mike Leake is probably not going to help during the stretch run. He has hit a wall. No movement, pitches up, and his high WHIP is catching up with him. Dribblers and dunkers or not leading up to the Shumaker miracle, his stuff is gone. Nice 1st season, but I think we've got what we're going to get out of him this year. Shut him down, get him a little bullpen work, and rotate in Harang or Bailey. Lather rinse repeat.

I think this may best solution with the other pitchers coming back.

Watched the game at my folks. I can say this, Chris Carpenter may be a fine pitcher, but he's a prima donna crybaby. He struck me as incredibly unprofessional tonight in his reactions. I'm surprised Ryan didn't deck him.

I agree, its tough because you don't want a batter to let meatballs go past him time and time again...so for the most part you let them swing if its good...but you are right...it is simply tough to tell a meatball vs a ball with some late movement. Its easier said than done.

It's amazing how many people refuse to believe the opponent sometimes makes really good plays and beats you. They are professionals too, you know. They actually seem to think that the only way their team loses is through bad play, major mistakes, luck, bad calls...not just Reds fans, fans from all over. "We" lost, so "we" had to screw up somehow.

Tonight the Cards were better. Priss overcame the slick balls and the Mt Everest like challenge known as a fielder needing a different glove, delaying things for 16 seconds. The seeing eye single was too daunting though. No one could suffer one of those and not throw a hissy fit...The hitters got hot for an inning and took it to Leake (at least 4 of those 4th inning hits were on pretty good pitches, too). Kudos.

Get 'em tomorrow.
