From the lineup tonight it's not going to be Nix.. Fransisco and Stubbs would have to be the two candidates.. anyone know yet?

Francisco.

There is no way they go with Cairo as the only back up infielder.

Janish.

edit: Forgot Ocab is still hurt. John Fay's prediction was Francisco.

I would've guessed Nix. But who knows.

Yea i would have guessed Nix also but thats too obvious and dusty loves Nix a ton because he tends to never walk.

It better be Nix. We just traded for a better version of him. This trade makes it a lot easier to send down Nix over Heisey or Stubbs.

if heisey gets sent down ill prob revoke my fanship. most reasonable answer is nix

How long does Wood have to stay down in AAA?

He's got to stay down there for about 10 days, doesn't he?

sivman17
08-09-2010, 03:51 PM
Reds have an off day on Thursday, which means we won't need a 5th starter for a while. He will be able to pitch on his scheduled day. This will keep him on a regular rotation. It's actually a pretty smart move.

10 days unless someone gets hurt. So at most he misses 1 start and they can bring him back up.

More drama: Frisco is packing his stuff, per john fay

Who cares about Francisco.

The guy is the next coming of big sucky Willy mo pena.

He looks like a wetawd against any offspeed pitches. And cant play defense.

Francisco needs sent down. Nix needs to stay.

Not so sure about this so called "Smart move" Sending wood down.

He's one of our best starters right now we cant afford for him to miss even a single start.

Also when a player is sent down, they have to stay down for a minimum of at least 10 however if an injury occurs to a player on the Major League Roster and the player is placed on the DL then the player that was just sent down can be brought back up regardless of the 10-day limit thing.

Reds are off on Thursday and Monday. 5th starter won't be needed. Definitely a smart move.

Chapman needed to come up here before Aug 31 to be eligible for postseason. I guess now is as good a time as any.

Is it safe to say Leake would have been sent down if his start wasn't today?

Caveman Techie
08-09-2010, 03:55 PM
Yeah with the off day they can just skip his spot in the rotation, and have a couple of extra bench players for Dusty. Smart.

Only if he would have pitched yesterday, or if the schedule would have allowed the Reds to shuffle someone in to his next start without them going on short rest. It just worked out that the Reds had a starting pitcher who still had options left pitch yesterday and the math all works out.

Springer, Isringhausen, Chapman, Harang, Bailey and (possibly) Cabrera. Work that roster, Walt.

Francicsco packing. I figured they would send down an outfielder. So Cairo is the only backup outfielder?? Then again.. He's not a very good fielder

Reds sent Wood through waivers and a mystery team claimed him. Details to follow.

So they send down the starter pitching the best instead of a guy that needs to be skipped in the rotation (leake)?

Wood increased his innings by 40 last year and doing another 40 this season would mean he could pitch around 205 innings so he does not need to be skipped

He is not being "skipped" if he pitches in Louisville. He will keep his same routine.

That being said, I think I'm in agreement with the majority that he should not be the one sent down.

So who would you have pitching tonight on short rest? Do the math Wood is down because his next day to pitch falls on an off day and they can reshuffle the rotation around it.

Plus it's not like Leake is a horrible pitcher.

He pitched 140 in 2006. I think he got injured in 2007-2008 limiting his innings. He would have pitched more than 127 in 2008. So the 40 inning jump was not a natural jump in innings, and 200+ is not the next natural jump.

At first I was like why Wood he's pitching great. But because of that off day he'd be missing a start. This way he can pitch on his scheduled start in AAA and be brought back up to the show. I'm hoping the "Cuban Missile" comes up as well.
