Klinker going for Carolina tonight. I'm sure he's paying attention to the fact that Wood is back in Louisville. This probably puts a hold on his return in the near term. The Daryl Thompson saga continues as well.

I guess I'll listen to the Mudcats and watch the Reds game. .

The Bats are unbelievable. To start the year I thought they would be rock solid across the board. It took them most of the summer but that is where they are now, on a tear.

Klinker down 3-0 after one inning. Brandon Yarbrough with two errors in the first inning. I really don't see him as a left fielder but that's where he's getting time lately. He is a Pinehurst, NC kid btw.

I've actually gotten a few thank yous since yesterday. Thank you for noticing. I'm just glad y'all enjoy them. If you've noticed what I've done these past few days, I'm sure you've also noticed what OBM, dougdirt, redsof72, cinreds21, GOYA, muddie, mce, mth123, and the many, many others have done to make this such a great forum. There are a ton of thank yous that deserve to go around, but since the list of names is too long, I'll just send a giant thank you to the many people who add quality conversation to the forum.

Decent speed. Nothing special. Good baserunner.

I have him as a slightly above average runner from home to first. Certainly a good base runner. He has the speed to steal some bags in the majors, though I doubt he is a 30 steals guy in the majors.

For those who've lost count, the Bats have won 16 of their last 17.
And, from July 3 until now, their record is 29-6.

I know this may be looking into things a little bit too much, but the Reds' recent track record of bringing up guys who step right in and get the job done has to be aided by how much better the situation in AAA has gotten over the last two months. It seems like most every guy that has been called up has proven his worth in some way.

Maloney and Wood both exceeded expectations (one obviously more than the other). Ondrusek made the jump back up before the Bats went on their tear, but his time down there obviously served him well. LeCure held his own. Fisher has been lights out since he came up for the second time in July. Francisco has been a great bench bat in his limited time up.

Even the guys who are rehabbing seem to go on cruise control when they arrive off the bus in Louisville. Bray, Volquez, Dickerson, and Bailey (knock on wood) all made good progress. In the case of Bray and Volquez, they've made it back to the majors and contributed in some way (though not in exemplary fashion).

It's getting to the point that whoever gets called up from the minors I just expect them to fill in and do a satisfactory-to-admirable job for the MLB club. I know that's unreasonable in the long term, but most things this year have just fallen very nicely in place. Whatever it is, be it improved talent, being confident they can take their success to the next level, or Sweet, Power, and Garrett putting these guys in a good mindset to succeed, or a mix of it all, I love it.

I have a raincheck from an earlier Chapman start that was rained out and I'm going to make a point to go down and see that club play next week while the Reds are on the road. Go Bats!

Also, does anyone else think that the Bats, the way they are playing right now could give the Pirates' MLB squad a serious run for their money in a 5 game series? I'm convinced the Bats have comparable pitching, though their current lineup is under-equipped in comparison.

Cozart is about as fast as Heisey

I have him as a slightly above average runner from home to first. Certainly a good base runner. He has the speed to steal some bags in the majors, though I doubt he is a 30 steals guy in the majors.

Could he be a 15/15 type guy in the majors? Does he have the potential to be better than that?

Alonso at .299 and Frazier at .254. I remember not long ago they were competing to see who could pass the Mendoza line first.

More steals, perhaps more home run power.

At his ceiling, Cozart could drop a 25/40 on the league, but he's more than likely a 15/25 guy for the next five or six years. The only quesitons, really, are if Jocketty will accept a rookie starting for a club that should contend for a league crown or if he will turn to a veteran. Historically, Jocketty prefers veterans.

If so, Janish may be the veteran, with Cabrera likely dumped. If not, Cozart skips over Janish (who plays primarily the same role in 2011 as he does this season), but keeping both, once again, means Cabrera is dumped.

If Cabrera is kept, I would guess either Cozart or Janish will be sent packing (though the team defend its choice by pointing out Cozart's poor BA). It will certainly be interesting what happens.

Personally, I hope for Cozart starting, but could see Janish taking his spot, at least initially. I cannot see a reason to keep Cabrera past 2010.

When I've seen Cozart running he seemed to be quick. Id say he gets up to speed quicker than, and that is a huge thing in stealing bases.
