Putting things into perspective, Heisey and Janish are a combined 0-12 with a heinous error and the criticism has been minimal, at most. Mob mentality. This team has played like crap top to bottom this series, including Gomes.

% of blame:

Jonny Gomes 52.34%
Arroyo 45.25%
Dusty Baker 1.40%
Jim Edmonds 1.01%

LOL. What about Cabrera?

Grounder to Phillips to end the inning. Bray made it interesting though.

Then where's the fury about Jay Bruce? He hasn't produced a lick in several months. Heck, his defense hasn't been as hot as I recall at least a few critical misplays in the outfield too.

I think Gomes should be benched, by the way (for those of you that want to interpret my comments as defending Goms). But the blame being placed on his shoulders has reached irrational proportions.

This has been a rather pathetic series by the entire team. Yet a few people want to blame one guy for most of the problems. It's irrational and I'm calling a spade a spade.

Irrational is worrying about what percentage of blame should be distributed by posters on a message board.

By the way, Jonny Gomes is making my eyes bleed.

Yeah, no. Bruce's defense has been good all year. That's why he and Stubbs can get away with it.

They are not getting anything out of Rolen either...nor Gomes offensively for some time now.

There are just too many regular hitters not doing anything and haven't been this month. The pressure on the pitching staff is obviously getting to them. Had they had a 1 or 2 run lead, maybe Arroyo doesn't pitch around people and try to keep the shut out going, maybe he gives up a run or two instead of 4.

It is also obvious the Reds top 3 starters are < Cards top 3. And the Reds just don't have the talent offensively to overcome that in a short series. I suspect they'd meet the same fate in the first round of the post season as well.

I'd do cartwheels (and for a guy like me, that's a big deal) if The Reds had an Adam Wainwright on their staff. He's young, durable, and he misses bats. He's an ace stopper, something The Reds lack.

I sure do hate Carpenter though.

But anyway, maybe Walt can find another Wainwright for us like he did in StL. He did acquire him in the JD Drew deal, after all. Wish The Reds would have offered the Braves Kearns or something.

Who said anything about what "percentage" is being blamed? If you're going to come at me, at least get it right.

All I said was that Arroyo and Gomes both were to blame for that inning. I didn't see anyone (except you sarcastically) try to assign a percentage to that.

"Usually," yes. Absolutely. But in the past few weeks he's made a few pretty boneheaded plays out there that everyone glossed right over. I am not saying those plays are indicative of the job he typically has done out there, but they certainly haven't been at good times and in the midst of providing nothing with the bat.

I do think Gomes is the most responsible guy today.

But overall, the Reds lack the kind of ace starting pitching the Cards have. And the Reds also need to get one true top notch all around outfielder. I see them as two players away -- Willie Mays and Sandy Koufax.

That's probably true.

But collectively since the start of July, the two have combined on just 49 hits in 221 at-bats (.221 average) with a combined OPS of about 600.

I'm not surprised it's raining downtown now. It's been pouring here at work for a good twenty minutes now with some thunder and lightning mixed in for good measure. It fits my mood although I wouldn't mind the power going out so I wouldn't have to work for a while. :p:

The Pirates series sucked earlier this year. This series sucks too (more so because it's our big rival) but this too shall pass. They have to face the Marlins ace on Friday but I can see them taking two of three from them here at home if they can put this series behind them and play better baseball. Something will turn around soon for our guys. Maybe this means they'll kick some behind during the upcoming west coast trip? *fingers crossed*
