I guess it's the Cordero/ Cabrera philosophy w/ Gomes. He's been SO bad lately...he's DUE to break out.

Wainwright will make him looked like a A-baller out there today. Sad.

I agree, no way is Gomes gonna hit a Wainwright curve.

Is anyone else besides me ready for the great Gomes experiment to end??

He was exposed in the OF last night. His value is a RH pinch hitter with some pop.

Johnny Gomes is OPSing 1.333 vs Wainwright.
Jim Edmonds is OPSing 0.000 vs Wainwright.

I think that is just this year.

Gomes has 5 ABs, Jimmy has 8 ABs. I'd still rather have Edmonds in there, but it is not an abomination to have Gomes start today.

Aren't there about 30,000 people who can verify that LaRue was sitting in his team's dugout for most of the game without any noticable injuries? Wasn't he on the Kiss Cam with ToolBoy at some point? How can he be that injured if he was sitting right there the whole game?

Jonny Gomes, man of truth.

“What would have happened if he hadn’t flailed his legs?” Gomes said. “We might be looking at Cueto the one with stitches. We might looking at Cueto with a black eye or broken nose. From what was going on at time. . . he was kicking. If you don’t want to get kicked, don’t be within kicking distance.”

From ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5455321):

The standings board at Great American Ball Park refused to acknowledge the change of order on Wednesday, keeping Cincinnati listed above St. Louis. The teams were tied in the games-behind column, though St. Louis had the better winning percentage. The organist played the theme from "Rocky" when a fan threw a ceremonial pregame pitch....

I'm tired of Gomes out there as much as the next guy. But the Reds have done virtually nothing right as a team this series and yet Gomes is getting pinned for all the blame. Like it or not, there are 25 ballplayers on this team that deserve a share in the blame for this series.

25 guys are on the team and share the blame. But one of them has missed 3 catchable balls (that were not errors) that, if made, would have saved 7 runs. He also had an error on a throw that allowed another run to score.

The other 24 guys didn't contribute those.

Please don't get me wrong. In NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, am I blaming this series, or any single loss on Gomes. But so many better options have been available for this series.....and yet he has gotten the reps.
Bleh.

The beat goes on. Wainwright and Ryan get hits. You CAN'T allow that if you want to beat the Cards.

It ain't Jonny Gomes, its letting guys who shouldn't beat you, beat you.

Man, how many hits have the Cards gotten on ground balls this series. We've certainly helped them out with meatballs and defensive miscues, but how about a little batted ball luck?

No offense, but I think you just like to argue.

Gomes has been awful this series. And nobody said that it's all one player's fault. People are on Gomes right now and rightfully so. Doesn't mean they have to list all the things wrong with everyone else.

Like I said, if everyone was pounding on Arroyo, we'd probably be hearing from you how Gomes was to blame for not catching the catchable foul ball.

:D

Or maybe it's both, plus a few other things?

How about we focus our negativity towards the Cards instead of the Reds or others on the board? The Cards WANT us to fight each other...it's diabolical.
