Do we need to limit his innings now too? :)

Something I always wondered is why don't catcher get sore arms? A lot of catchers fire the ball back and they do it for nine innings 3 out of every 4 games. Seems like their arms would be ready to fall off after awhile.

Hopefully, I won't jinx young Jake Johnson for pointing this out, but over his last four starts including 4 innings today, in 23 innings he has allowed 1 earned run, allowed 4BB and K'd 19. The Reds have kept him in a starting role all season and it looks to be paying off. I know a number of people commented on his prospect status last year, but I have not seen much this year.

Yet another good start for Jordan Hotchkiss: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 6 K. His ERA is now 2.26. Justin Freeman finished the sixth, and Lynchburg leads 3-0. Soto has a HR and 2B.

I'm becoming convinced that Hotchkiss should be the organization's minor-league pitcher of the year, nosing out Donnie Joseph.

Jacob Johnson's final and splendid line tonight: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K. The kid is really turning it on. And apparently, he has the makeup to go along with his ability.

Dayton has actually tied the game, 2-2, after eight.

The DSL Reds just win and win and win. Not quite like the Bats, but a fairly close facsimile. They've now won 12 of their last 13. Today's victory came in spite of an uncharacteristically mediocre start by Abel De Los Santos. Somebody named Ariel Baez, a 3B, was 4 for 5 with two doubles. The DSL Reds are now 38-22.

Compare this year's Mez swing:
YouTube - Devin Mesoraco with a long HR for the Carolina Mudcats (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBN4V3cGxLQ)

with last year's Mez swing in ST:
YouTube - Devin Mesoraco grounds out against Danny Ray Herrera (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgHHN-ggBb8)

He's got his hands "in the box" this year and it obviously has helped his power 100%.

Too many first pitch balls. No reason to bring him up yet, he's learning more in Louisville than he ever will with the Reds the next 2 weeks.

The 27th vs the Cubs seems like a good time to bring him up.

Here's the box score from the fairly-uneventful DSL Reds win against the DSL Orioles.

Although he's been terrific all year, Abel De Los Santos had a bad start.
Ariel Baez had two errors.

Driessen pitches the 8th for the AZL Reds. He gives up a leadoff single and then wild pitches the runner into scoring position, before coming back to strike out the next three batters. He now has 9K in 4 scoreless innings of relief.

How did Danny Ray pick up a blown save with no runs allowed?

Louisville starter Micah Owings gave up five hits and two runs in 41/3 innings. Four relievers followed, with Daniel Ray Herrera (2-1) earning the victory and Aroldis Chapman getting the last five outs for his sixth save in seven tries. He fanned pinch-hitter Max Leon with a 102 mph fastball on his 43rd pitch to end it with runners at second and third.

Entered in the 6th inning and allowed an inherited runner to score?

I really think switching Boxberger to a reliever (especially as early in the season as the Reds did) was a big mistake.

I was thinking the same thing. Here's the recap of the bottom of the sixth:

Toledo Bottom 6th
Brent Dlugach walks.
Pitcher Change: Jesus Delgado replaces Jason Isringhausen.
Justin Henry singles on a line drive to center fielder Michael Griffin. Brent Dlugach to 2nd.
Max St. Pierre out on a sacrifice bunt, third baseman Eric Eymann to second baseman Chris Valaika. Brent Dlugach to 3rd. Justin Henry to 2nd.
Injury Delay.
Pitcher Change: Daniel Ray Herrera replaces Jesus Delgado.
Louisville Bats pitcher Jesus Delgado left the game due to an injured ankle.
Scott Sizemore grounds out, shortstop Zack Cozart to first baseman Yonder Alonso. Brent Dlugach scores.
Will Rhymes strikes out swinging.

Also, here's the box score from the second game of the AZL Reds' double-header. It was 2-2 after nine, but the Reds scored four in the tenth.

+
Adam Muenster singled thrice with two RBIs.
The pitching was good all around.
It took 31 at-bats, but Jeff Taylor hit for the cycle. He also had an assist from the outfield.
Jose Silva walked three times.

-
Sam Diaz was 0-for-5.
David Vidal hurt his foot.

Nice to see Nathan Driessen have an outing like that. He's a guy I thought could make a mark, but it hadn't really happened this year. And hey, Lucas O'Rear!
