View Full Version : New angle on how this series could help us

A quote from Bronson Arroyo on the enquirer website clued me into this idea.

On the pressure of facing three pitchers like Chris Carpenter, Jamie Garcia and Adam Wainwright:

“It’s closer to a playoff atmosphere. That’s what you’re going to face. When you get down to the nuts and bolts, you don’t expect anyone to throw their No. 4 and 5 guy at you."

I don't think the series will help us make the playoffs...but say we do make the playoffs. This series could help us be ready for the 5-game series, or the next 2 7-game series. "You remember how the Cardinals came in here and threw their best 3 guys at us and kicked our tails? Well, that's going to happen again if we approach this series the same way."

Last year the Cardinals had a good team but went 3-and-out against the Dodgers. Theoretically, we could have already had our 3-and-out against a good playoff-caliber team the last 3 days....and we know to make adjustments to avoid another one when we make the real playoffs.

This is where the veteran leadership should come into play if that's a relevant factor at all.

Rolen
Cabrera
Edmonds

3 guys who've been in plenty of races and playoffs.

Too much drama for this past series.

1. Phillips with his ill-timed comments and Hal McCoy printing them.
2. Edmonds traded for.

There was enough happening before those two things became a distraction.
