It's a little odd to me that Cozart has batted second nearly every day in that lineup. I mean, that's OK. But it's not like he's a high-OBP guy, and it's not like Louisville is short on hitters. You almost have to wonder if it's related to Dusty's penchant for hitting the SS in the 2-hole.

Otherwise, doesn't Valaika seem like a better choice? He doesn't have Cozart's speed or stolen-base skill, but he gets on base a little more and is generally regarded as a better hitter. You'd think he'd at least get an occasional shot at the top of the order. Whatever, I guess.

Doubtful. The only other player that would be a good fit for the 2 hole is Valakia and his OBP isn't much better. Cozart though can swipe a base so it makes him a better option IMO.

Valaika's OBP isn't much higher than Cozarts, despite his average being higher. Cozart has double the walks.

DSL Reds won 2-1 in a 6 Inning game. Sanchez had 1 of the 2 hits for the Reds.

18 year old RH De Los Santos got the complete game win (8-1) Lowering his ERA to 2.01 in 13 starts.

It's .334 to .321. That's not a landslide, but it's a definite edge.

De Los Santos was chosen for the DSL all-star team. By the numbers, at least, he looks to be a very nice prospect--possibly even a 5-10 choice among the organization's starters.

Cozart has been leading the league in runs scored for quite a while. While that says something about the guys hitting behind him, he must be doing something right, right?

Good point. It's not a biggie. Just seems like, with Valaika hitting over. 300 for most of the season, you'd think he'd get some shots at the top of the order. I'd also think that they'd want to take a look at Cozart in different parts of the order. He could easily be a 7- or 8-hole hitter in the big leagues. You'd think he might see a glimpse of that, anyway.

But, hey, I'd be the last guy to question Rick Sweet. I think very highly of him.

Wow - it did not take long for the Bats to break the no hits with runners in scoring position streak!

BTW, I heard on the pre-game show that the Bats will be giving away Corky Miller posters on the 28th!

Not when you consider the lower guy has better speed and SB skills.

.013 equates to getting on base about once more every 20 games.

Not even close enough to make up the base running difference

Balentein has his average up to .275 after a slow start to go along with all those bombs. The front office will have a ton of tough choices to make at the end of the year. As everyone keeps saying it is a good problem to have.

Hoping WB can make the OD roster next year.

Starting to think he'd be a much better option in LF than Gomes at this point.

Jordan Hotchkiss' night is done: 6.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K . . . ERA 2.30.

Lynchburg leads 4-2. If the lead holds up, Hotchkiss will be 10-4 for a team on which everybody else is 42-63. Very impressive.

So you think the move to starter is now completely official or do they move him back to the bullpen again at the start of next year?

I wonder how Hamilton is with his actual base stealing instincts. I'm sure at this level his overall speed and the opposing teams battery play a part in his steals.

Even still, the guy in 2nd place in the league in steals coming into tonight had 17. Hamilton had 28. That is a giant gap between first and second. Like 65% more than the guy in second place type of giant gap.

He was moved into the starting role toward the end of last year. So it sure looks like that's his assignment. Of course, I've been fooled before along those lines.

Lynchburg wins 5-3. Hotchkiss picks up his 10th victory.

Didn't realize Chris Richburg is hitting .361 for Lynchburg, in 83 AB. He drove in two tonight and Brodie Greene scored three.

Second pitch was a mid-80s breaking ball that froze the hitter. Third pitch was 102 and a swing and a miss. Most importantly, Chapman came in with runners on, facing the tying run, and he wasn't flustered in the least. The Reds can use this guy.

Holy crap.

I've seen Chapman pitch ten or eleven times this season and can attest to the impossibility of being prepared for these two extremes.

The swings on Chapman's pitches are completely different than the swings on other pitcher's pitches. Since his move to the pen, I've seen no one get a good swing on both his FB and his off-speed stuff and only a handful (three, IIRC) get a good swing on one of them.

He's a dominating player.
