I don't mind seeing him in 2 hole, that's probably the safest place for him to start hitting. He's got Votto behind him so he should see some decent pitches.

The only reason I see him batting in the 2-hole is to have Votto behind him and hope he gets some pitches to swing at.

I hope if BP gets on, he's running. :D

Gomes batting .471 against Lopez for his career, with 2 HR's, 8-17. That's why he's in the lineup tonight. Dusty did his homework.

Phillips 0-4 in his career.

Edmunds and Cairo both hit Lopez pretty well too. So does Rolen.

We shall see how it plays out.

What's weird is ESPN's accuscore prediction has us as a 55% to 45% underdog:

http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/preview?gameId=300818129

Maybe they know something we don't. All I know is, if the wild Volquez shows up that gives up 5 runs in 4 IP, which is completely and totally possible, we're screwed. I don't think today's game is a lock by any means because you never know what you're going to get with Volquez, and our entire outfield in this game has been hitting horribly.

If Gomes wasn't 8-17 against Lopez than Heisey would probably be in left. Edmonds is gonna get his share of PT and take a bit away from all the rest of the outfielders. Stubbs is the one that is taking the PT back from Heisey, since Edmonds came over Stubbs has had 18 PA's, Edmonds has had 15 PA's, and Heisey has had 9 PA's. The week before Edmonds was here when Heisey has 20 PA's, Stubbs only had 6 PA's.

You lost me there. I am saying Edmonds has 1 hit since joining the Reds. Rather than upgrading LF via platoon or getting a good pinch-hitter Dusty did what I feared and added another struggling OFer to replace the only guy (Heisey) in the outfield who was playing well.

Griffey012

This is what I think is Dusty's thinking:

Bruce was getting better wood on the ball last night, but hitting those hard on the ground after his line-drive. Therefore put him in front of a monster like Votto to see better pitches.

Votto is out, who moves to the 3rd hole? Put Edmonds there and continue to try and give Rolen the most opportunities to hit with RISP.

Since Votto is no longer in, he wants extra speed at the top of the lineup because it's increases the odds we may need to play some small ball. Enter Stubbs in the OF and Edmonds to first (or you could enter Heisey in the same spot)

Edmonds jumps to 3rd, Gomes shifts up a spot, and Bruce goes back to the 6 hole where he has hit most the year.
