Got word that infielder Chris Valaika will be sent down to Louisville. Dunno if this has already been reported or not.

From who? For who?

I heard it, and I believe Orlando is being activated.

I really hope Dusty doesn't think that OCab automatically gets his job back. Janish has been amazing.

As much as I would have liked to see Valaika get an extended look, I suppose in the heat of the pennant race is not the time for him to get a "tryout".

Yes. I'm ready to see Cabrera ease his way back into the starting rotation. A good rest has probably done him good.

One thing Cabrera has been this year is "timely". He comes up with good at-bats at importants moments.

He really has been outstanding defensively and has improved a lot offensively. He should be the starting shortstop in my opinion.

at worst, Paul should get 3 starts per week....they should split the starts for the next few weeks and then go with the hot hand as the last 20 games wind down. No reason at all for PJ to sit the bench full time. The guy has made plays at SS that OC would wave at...

Unforturnately, with Phillips' hand hurting, Janish may get some starts at 2b.

Bingo. But honestly, wouldn't OCab's declining range make him the more suited one for second base and keep Janish at SS?

Playing Cabrera at SS reminds of Dusty playing Gomes in RF and Dickerson in LF last year.

Even worse will be seeing who Dusty decides to leadoff when Phillips isn't playing

I doubt it. Phillips is going to miss at least some time with whatever injury he has sustained.

Who knows what the team's plans are when BP gets healthy.

Ocab will bat leadoff, Janish will bat 8th. That is how I see it playing out.

Back when Janish was an unused bench warmer, I thought he should start 3 times a week: Once at 3rd, once at SS, and once at 2nd to give Rolen, OCab, and BP some rest. Now with OCab back and Janish playing so well, I don't know, maybe up his starting at SS to 2 times a week while also giving Rolen and BP rest.

Stubbs last 339 PA is batting .256/.313/.443

Barely worse than what Phillips .283/.323/.447 did in the lead off spot.

Here is where the Reds need to be smart. Put Phillips on teh 15 Day DL, let the hand hear, keep Valiaka up here and put him at 2nd. Let the hand heal so he is ready and able down the stretch, but the Reds wont do the smart thing.

Right now, there is too much we don't know, so it's silly to speculate. We don't even know if Valaika will be sent to Louisville. That might have been the plan before the Phillips injury.

The fact that we have heard nothing official signals to me that the Reds are waiting to see the results of Phillips' X-rays before making any move. If Phillips needs to go on the DL or will miss a good chunk of time, then Valaika probably stays.

It's really hard to guess without knowing how serious Phillips' injury is.

To me this is a no brainer. I ask BP to flex his hand, arm and such and if he can without 0 pain then okay, but if there is any pain I put him on the DL and let the arm heal. With the schedule as it is, this would be the time to go without him, not playing a man short because his arm is an issue day to day.
