Let's hope.

Miguel Batista, aka "Miss Iowa" in for Washington. He can go long if need be, so the Nats are okay here in terms of pitching, if Batista can throw strikes.

Actually I believe they are playing their make up game vs. the Marlins on their last day off, so next Thursday is it for them now.

There's an article up on the site with the makeup date info.


The Cardinals will play from Sept. 3 through Oct. 3 without a day off. As a result of the long stretch of consecutive games, St. Louis players had to approve the makeup date.

MLBN is showing this game and the Twins @ Rangers game in different parts of the country. What's criminal is that they didn't have the sense to televise the Cards game in Reds Country.

Basically how MLB Network does that is one game is their main national game. They usually show the backup game to the areas blacked out of the main game.

The 27th is an off day because MLB has a rule that when a team has to travel to the other coast they get a day off at the end of that trip.

I agree with you about travel. But it helps a ton with pitching. Will be able to match up against teams and have Arroyo and anyone else that is hot throw more games. Arroyo might throw on 3 days rest in September more.

This game has been brutal on StL even if they pull it out (which is far from assured), not only are they burning through a good chunk of their pen (and Franklin threw two innings to boot) but both Holliday and Pujols got injured in some fashion or another. Not sure if Holliday will need X-rays on his hand, but there's that and Pujols' gimpy ankle.

That puts the game in the hands of a guy whose longest outing this year is two innings, AND it burns the Nats' last bench player.

Geez, hope this guy gets the run home, because this shifts things towards StL if the Nats don't score here.

But he has only 39 innings in 34 games, so he is not likely a candidate to pitch longer than an inning.

He's also not throwing strikes yet.

I hope Molina, in particular, enjoyed that one. Nothing like squatting for 5 hours only to watch your team lose anyway. That's gotta hurt.
