Votto's list of accomplishments to date is as long as it is impressive. And me, I'm here to add one more thing that I suppose you can slide in somewhere near the bottom. Because while this isn't the most meaningful of statistics, I think it's worth noting that, of the 153 batters who had made at least 400 trips to the plate so far this season, Joey Votto is the only one who has yet to hit a single infield fly.

Incredible...

Now that you've pointed it out, I bet I know what happens his first at-bat today. :)

That really is an incredible stat.

His eye is fantastic. The best thing about Votto is that we're just seeing him emerge. I don't want to pressure him or put too high expectations out there - but he's still young and just coming into his prime. I really hope he stays healthy for many years to come.

This stat is why his BABIP is so astronomical. People point to it and say that he's just lucky, but this stat is the real reason. When he makes contact, it's going someplace fast and far away.

Votto = Beast

There is no one in the league I'd rather have at 1b, guy is gonna be a beast for at least a decade.

Great stat, OP, and thanks for finding it/posting it. Joey never gets cheated at the plate. I thought that already, but this stat confirms it even more. Good stuff!

This quote says it all...

"I talked to an advance scout that told me if Joey Votto and Albert Pujols were on the same team he'd advise his team to do the unthinkable...pitch around Votto to get to Pujols." - Buster Olney, ESPN

I'm really not sure what I think of this stat....how many times has he come up in IF situations, versus others? Are there lots of hitters at only 1 or 2 IF (not that statistically different from zero). It just seems like an oddball stat that I'm not sure has meaning.

If it really does mean, "Joey doesn't pop up in important situations," then yeah, I'd agree it's significant.

Nice!

I'd make that my signature, if I knew how. :dunno:

I was thinking of doing the same. :)

Just click on the 'User CP' link at the top of the page. Then, on the left side of the resulting page, click the link, "Edit Signature". Copy and paste in the quote, save and you're done.

Thanks, Rockermann. You could have already taken it and I'd never known. I would've assumed someone just beat me to it. You're a good guy.

Thanks for your help. :beerme:

Votto is a great player but he's still got a long way to go (and a lot of luck needed) before he passes Pujols in anything, and I think that includes the "Fear Struck In Opposing Managers" stat, AKA IBB.

As for that stat, it's pretty crazy that he hasn't had an infield popup this year. Who even keeps track of this stuff?
