I like the lineup... Wells has only won 2 games in his last 21 starts. He's had a bad season. We need to knock him around.

Gomes is horrible against righties. He has had a couple of games with hits recently because he has been starting against lefties. Heisey should be given a chance to start against righties.

Batting:
Gomes against righties: 267 AB, 9 HR, .247 avg., .693 OPS
Heisey against righties: 63 AB, 4 HR, .371 avg., 1.112 OPS

Fielding:
Gomes: sucks
Heisey: good

Heisey has been struggling lately but Dusty sat him on the bench for a week after he had been crushing the ball. I think he lost his swing with all the crazy line-up changes after the Edmonds aquisition.

Hasn't Wells pitched "Well" against us in the past though? I seem to remember earlier this year he beat us, or shut us down at least. I can't remember exactly though. He's one of these annoying pitchers we've run into several times this year that can show up one night JUST against the Reds and pitch great.

Wait, found the stats:

Wells is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in two starts this season against the Reds and is 3-1 with a 2.58 ERA in six career matchups.

:explode:

Just what I thought. Hope we can kick his ass tonight.

I'll admit that they probably do let their human emotions and bias get in the way. I mean, how many times do you think NBA officials kind of "looked the other way" if Jordan was close to traveling, or Lebron James is close today?

Well if any member of the Reds had a good few of the swing in was Berry. You have to protect your best player in that situation and argue...it might help a call tomorrow.

Bobby Knight said that he knew he could not change a call by yelling at the refs but he said that it was human nature to not want to be yelled at. That the ref later in the game, would call a close play his way even subconsiously, because he did not want to get reemed out in front of everyone again.

I don't necessarily disagree. It's just, as I said, from my memory I've never seen it. Whether it's Mark Berry, Billy Hatcher, a good base coach or a bad base coach, I can't recall ever seeing it. Of course, then again most calls are closer than that one was.

I think sometimes it just comes down to confidence...he knows hes pitched well against us in the past so he comes out ready and confident he can throw strikes and beat us. Trusts his pitches and his spots. Not trying to make a perfect pitch every time. Sometimes confidence can go a long way.
