#Reds source: Team plans to call up Aroldis Chapman and his 105-mph fastball Monday or Tuesday. Pre-Sept. 1 call makes him playoff eligible

I sure hope this is the case, I'm going to the whole series and would love to see him pitch live before I ship away to college on Friday.

The recent performance of Arthur Rhodes along with the injury makes this a good move. Should have been called a while ago IMO.

So if both Harang and Chapman are here before the first who is sent down?

They have to be sending down some position players. Right now they have 14 position players and only 11 pitchers on the active roster. This includes 7 infielders, and also Nix, who is hurt.

My guess is they send down Francisco and possibly LeCure.

Good question. I'd think Valaika would be one, but that means Phillips or Cairo would need to be OK to start at 2B.

I don't see Volquez helping in the pen, so maybe he'd hit the DL.

Francisco (instead of Valaika) does make sense if BP or Cairo still can't go.

But LeCure looked pretty good today.

Valaika looks like a nice guy to have available in the playoffs....

Is there any realistic chance that Volquez will be on the playoff roster? I would think not. Might as well send him and be done with him till next year.

If he can fix his mechanics, I think he could be huge for the Reds in the playoffs.

I'm not going to give up on him yet.

LOL "Pre-Sept. 1st" as in one day.

It's not really a necessity for the playoff roster. The Reds have a bunch of playoff roster exceptions due to players on the DL.

You may not see anyone actually sent down. He could be brought up as part of the expanded rosters on Sept. 1 and still be playoff roster eligible.

Is anyone actually sure Volquez has options left? He was up and down with Texas 3 different years, which normally means he doesn't have any options left. In all 3 of those years, his minor league stats don't look like rehab assignments. Since he played in the majors those year also, it certainly looks like his 3 option years are gone.

Definitely need to get Chapman some action here before heading into enemy territory @ St. Louis. Hopefully, his international experience with the Cuban national team will help alleviate some of the jitters he's sure to have. Wonder what's the biggest crowd he's pitched in front of?

No, not Nix. He is day to day and will be back soon. Too good lately to send down.

I was really hoping they'd bring him up for the Cubs. I was at Saturday's game (3rd time my son and I saw Bronson lose this year), and was really hoping to see him pitch.

Yeah, I don't get calling him up under all this pressure.

Calling him up during the recent West Coast swing would have been a good time. No home time crowd hype to deal with, and few big games to be involved with. Now he has to deal with all the hometown media hype and the Cardinals series afterward.

Here's to hoping he can deal with it.
