Wow, this guy needs to be out of baseball.

pretty sure he's due for about a 30 game suspension after that. I'm glad he got decked, too bad it wasn't a better shot that could have knocked him out.

Doesn't he have a background in hockey?

He reminds me of Happy Gilmore on a baseball field lol. He's looking for fights that's for sure...I laughed pretty hard when I saw the video, but ya he needs to be suspended for a while.

Gaby Sanchez clotheslined him to the ground.

Morgan has been causing alot of problems lately. Ran over a catcher the other night instead of sliding. Separated the catcher's shoulder and Morgan was also out. They said had he slid, he would have been safe. I saw the video and agree.

Tonight they beaned him early in the game. He stole 2nd and 3rd when the game was out of hand, which supposedly upset the Fish. So they threw at him again and he charged the mound. What an idiot. Then when escorted off the field, he threw up his arms while the crowd boo-ed.

I think he did exactly what he should have done.

He hit the catcher, and it was a clean play. He could have slid but dont stand on the plate if you dont want clocked.

Plunked the next day, fine with that.

Stealing 2 bases, perfectly fine with that.

Throwing behind him again, cheap and they got the response they wanted from Morgan. Clearly he felt he had to handle it and I'm perfectly fine with him going off and charging.

Yelling at the fans when he was taken off the field was the only part I have a problem with honestly.

I think the play last night, while not pretty, was clean. Catcher was very near the plate, and only went up for the throw when Morgan was not far from the plate. Morgan probably had his mind made up by then what he was doing.

That said, it was not hard to understand why the fish were upset. They hit him, enough done. Nyjer then proceeds to steal 2nd and 3rd, while down 11 runs. Apparently there is an unwritten rule that he should not do this. I don't see a problem with it. Up 11, I would tend to agree. However, it was only the 4th. Are they just supposed roll over and give up? It ain't over until the 3rd out of the 9th. How many large leads have we seen the Reds give up this year?

The fish take exception with the SBs and throw behind him. That was not called for. I agree with him standing up for himself. If you throw out the running into the catcher from the other night, I don't think many would blame him. It is the fact that he is already facing a suspension from throwing a ball into the stands and the game from the other night that has everyone condemning him. He's quickly gotten a rep, now it will be hard to get out from under it.

I hadn't heard of this, but assumed they were UP by eleven! Down eleven, I never heard of an unwritten rule saying you shouldn't try to score.

I'm with you^ and GIDP

Agreed. Some of his antics earlier were unprofessional but I don't have a problem with anything he did during this series. I don't have any problem with the first play at the plate.

The play last night took place in the 10th inning of a scoreless game where he was trying to make a play to win the game. He could have, and in hindsight should have, slid instead of trying to knock the ball loose from the catcher but it's a split second decision and it was not a dirty play. It's unfortunate that the catcher got hurt on the play but that is going to happen when you allow runners to try to run over the catcher.

I'm sure he expected some sort of retribution tonight and he took the first HBP without causing a scene. It wasn't until after the pitcher threw behind him that he became upset and felt the need to charge the mound. Whether or not that is a good idea is certainly debatable but I've got a feeling that Nyjer Morgan isn't the only guy who would have charged in that situation.

I don't think he's done anything wrong against the Marlins yet. Look at it in order.

1) He bowls over the catcher. He knows the ball did not leave the infield - very good chance the catcher will have the ball and have the plate blocked before he gets there. When he turns the corner he knows he is going to hit him. If the Marlins catcher gets the ball even half a second earlier no one will question the decision. I hate when players slide into a waiting tag. I'll take the crushing hit on the catcher in comparison.

2) He takes his beaning and goes to first base without getting chippy. Same thing Phillips did.

3) He steals two bases and scores. He plays hard regardless of the score and doesn't back down... aren't these good things? If he was playing like this for the Yankees against the Red Sox, he would be a hero in the Bronx. Because he's a National he's not allowed to show a pair? If the Marlins didn't want him stealing bases... they should not have beaned him. You put the runner on, deal with the consequences. Simple concept.

4) He gets thrown at again. This is an obvious attempt to start a fight. If you had a major league pitcher try to hit you twice in a three inning span... would YOU take it in stride? No. You would head out to the mound and try to hit him. That's what he did and I don't blame him for doing it.

5) He gets mouthy and raises his hands. I don't *like* this but I also don't hate it. He's fired up. This team just threw at him twice, the first baseman took a cheap running shot at him and the fans are booing him like he just stepped on a puppy. He's playing the villain and enjoying it. Once again - don't throw at him if you don't want him to run his mouth, take a swing at you and score a run on you.

Whatever length his suspension is, the pitcher who threw at him deliberately twice needs to go out for just as long. These "unwritten rules" in baseball are downright silly. A hard-nosed player with a background in hockey makes a physical play, you bean him for it, he makes more hard-nosed plays, you bean him for those and he comes out to fight you for trying to push him around. A-okay in my book.

Oh, and I don't hate on him for throwing a ball at a Phillies fan. Philadelphia is a city full of terrible, violent and downright mean sports fans. I'm shocked more fans don't find themselves on the wrong end of player violence.

Actually he did exactly what you are not supposed to do, irrespective of if you think it was dirty or not. If he slides he is safe, he chose to try to run over the catcher and he was called out. Harold Reynolds pointed this out quite well. Washington lost 1-0 because of this. If someone on our team like BP or Gomes did this we would be all over him.

He did the same thing against the Cardinals catcher Anderson, purposely tried to take him out, even tho he didn't even have the ball and his back was turned to him. He ended up missing the base and was called out for interference, another smart play by Morgan huh? When his manager was asked why he wasn't in the lineup the next game he said, "Because he would get hit". Riggleman also had this to say, "I think it was just a culmination of Nyjer's anger that was brewing." Riggleman also called what Nyjer did "an unprofessional thing. He went after the catcher."

Stealing 2 bases down 11, not a big deal when taken by itself. But I don't think he should have charged the mound IMO when the ball was thrown 5 feet behind him. That was a message pitch, if the pitcher wanted to hit him he would have. Yelling at the crowd with two fists in the air while arguing with the crowd when leaving, while entertaining, will earn him a bigger suspension.

Finally, throwing a ball at a Phillies fan, well nothing to say here. He is appealing that 7 game suspension.

Do you see a pattern here maybe?

It's not like he was only halfway down the line when the ball go there. He was only a few feet away, he knew it would be a close play, but I highly doubt that he even knew the ball would get there so quick, by the time he saw there was no time to slide..

The hit on the catcher was just stupid, if he slides he scores. He risked injuring himself by not sliding not to mention the catcher.

He is a angry man that needs a vacation, last week he went out of his way to hit a catcher WITHOUT the ball, he went so far out of the way to hit him he missed the damn plate. Then he also hit a fan in the back of the head with a ball when he chucked it in the stands.

When I saw the highlights last night I was under the impression that the Nats were up by 11 when Morgan stole 3rd. But the Volstad took exception to him stealing 3rd when they were down by 11? That is bush league. I will be printing my "Free Nyjer Morgan" t-shirts later today.

Wow, this guy needs to be out of baseball.

He has some serious rage issues. I watched that game last Saturday where he went after the catcher for the Cards in the midst of an appeal for a 7 game suspension. He went out of the line, out of his way, missing the plate to hit the catcher. Pudge pushed him back to touch home and the ump called him out. I know he is not totally at fault for all of the drama in last nights game, but he still has some serious issues. The league needs to hammer down on this guy. No place for this in baseball.

Wow, I like this guy - he plays HARD. Why are they upset that he stole 2nd and 3rd? The only thing that I don't like that he's done was throw his glove down when he thought the ball went over the outfield wall.

His running into the catcher who wasn't blocking the plate was stupid, he throwing the ball into the stands was stupid. But how was his running over the Marlins catcher wrong? The catcher was blocking the plate. Was it stupid when Pete Rose ran over a catcher in the All Star game that ment nothing? Was it stupid when Norm Charleton ran over the dodgers catcher? If the catcher didn't want to get plowed, GET OUT OF THE WAY.

As for stealing the bases, it's called baseball. It's up to the pitcher and catcher to stop it, not for him not to steal because the game had a high score. last time I checked a number of games this season that seemed out of reach saw great comebacks.

The guy might be an idiot, but his bowling over the fish catcher and stealing the bases and charging the mound when he was thrown behind is good baseball and something I would want out of all my players.

I really dont understand the stance that since the Nats were down by 10 he shouldnt steal and try to score. Thats completely backwards from what I have always been told.

Being up by 10 is when I was told you shouldnt go and do things like stealing bases and stat padding.

In my opinion, when you're down 10 runs you should be doing anything and everything to try and close the gap. Crazy things happen. Play hard, especially when you're down that big early. It wasn't in the 9th inning or anything.

If he doesn't steal those bases he doesn't score that inning. Throwing at him the second time was absolutely classless, IMO.
