The gloom and doom grows old.

So does the constant, "no worries, nevermind the Reds are down 4 runs they've got thie."

But hey, live and let live. So have your optimism, no harm done... and I'll have my pessemism.

I'll be glad if I'm wrong. But this isn't shaping up very well. Without Bruce in the lineup, this lineup hasn't been terribly potent and the pitching hasn't been stellar. Add in being at wacky Coors Field against a team that apparently has made a deal with the baseball Gods for September perfection, and I believe the equation resembles that of a sweep.

Sue me.

If they've got a right hander tomorrow, I put Alonso in LF and Gomes in RF and take my chances. If by chance we get ahead put in the guys who can catch in the middle of the game. Otherwise we're looking at two more losses in Colo.

The lineup suddenly cannot find extra base hits in Coors Field. Cueto deserved better tonight, but still gave up 4 runs, regardless of how they did it. A starter giving up 4 runs against winning teams is usually not going to be helpful. Frustration continues at the Coors Field House of Horrors, who have replaced the Houston Astros of killer B's lore as unbeatable by any Reds team, good or bad.

I wanted Heisey to get a chance all year. He's got 4th OFer written all over him. Might be too late to sell high.

Except you didn't say you think it's going to be a sweep, you said it as a matter of fact.

Giving up on the team with the best record in the NL after a few loses is pretty weak.

Yet you are cringing with a Card's team 6 games behind us who is below .500 since early August.

This is baseball, where even good teams lose games in a row. We are facing a team which is hard to beat at home at the best of times, and who is currently red hot. We certainly played them tough all night, even after falling behind 3-0 before no more than a few pitches were thrown.

One more game in the books, didn't lose any ground.

We had 6 games left vs. above .500 teams, that number is now 5, and we didn't lose any ground.

That's a good night.

The whole team is just scuffling mightily with RISP, as demonstrated by the epic 11 LOB in 4 innings fiasco on Monday.

That simply smacks of desparation.

Gomes in right field?

Alonso in left?

I don't think the upgade of Alonso over Heisey (if it's even an upgrade) justifies putting a pitiful OF defense out there.

Taking chances is one thing, but throwing away a pair of jacks to go for an inside straight is foolish.

1. "Except you didn't say you think it's going to be a sweep, you said it as a matter of fact."

Who cares? Whether I state it as a matter of fact or opinion, it's still an opinion since it hasn't happened yet. Why does it matter how I state it? If I'm wrong, excellent. Why does it matter how I state it? Get a grip. Does it really matter "how" I state it?

2. "Giving up on the team with the best record in the NL after a few loses is pretty weak."

Where did I say I'm "giving up" on them? All I said was I think they're going to be swept, i.e. lose the next two games.

3. "Yet you are cringing with a Card's team 6 games behind us who is below .500 since early August."

See point No. 2. Who's cringing? I said I think they're going to be swept. Where did I mention either the Cardinals, how many games ahead the Reds are in the standings or any fear of being caught? Would you like to show me where I mentioned any of that? You're putting words into a post that were never typed to begin with.

4. "This is baseball, where even good teams lose games in a row. We are facing a team which is hard to beat at home at the best of times, and who is currently red hot. We certainly played them tough all night, even after falling behind 3-0 before no more than a few pitches were thrown."

Heard that during the Giants series too. And the Cards' series... two of them. Sooner or later, the Reds need to start beating the other good teams. Bury your head in the sand all you want, but like it or not, this isn't about the Reds losing a few games in a row... it's about the pattern of losing every single series they play to playoff contenders. That not at least a little bothersome? Making the playoffs is excellent. And if that's all the Reds do this year, I won't complain one iota. But until that point, would love to see a different result against these teams.

5. "One more game in the books, didn't lose any ground."

Indeed. But back to square one: that wasn't what was said, was it?

The Yankees have lost the first two to the Orioles.

This board is so used to the Reds sucking that people panic at the first sign of trouble. They'll be fine.

6 games up. There's no reason to worry. If we continue to scuffle when we get back home, fine. Rockies are playing well right now.

Good grief. He has made, what, three errors all season??? Physical errors happen. Watch the game long enough, and you will see the best defensive players make errors. They are part of the game. That is a fact. Ozzie Smith made them. Brooks Robinson made them. They happen...and baseball people accept the fact.

It could be worse. We could be the Braves right now. ;)

Next two games....

Arroyo vs Cook, Wood vs Hammel.

We've faced Cook 5 times since 07 and have not beaten him. He's 3-0 with 2 no decisions. He frustrates the heck out me whenever we face him. We beat Hammel back on 7/16, but he an Arroyo dueled each other pretty good with Rhodes pitching out of a jam to preserve the 3-2 win.

It also seems that maybe I'll stop griping about Gomes being in the lineup. Maybe he's starting to come around. O/c, it could just be because of the griping, in which case it needs to continue. :p:
