Obviously Harang won't be here.

I will also say Phillips.

Would like to see Phillips traded for something.

Rolen (maybe), Edmonds, and Rhodes will likely retire because of age. I don't see Harang or Phillips staying in Cincy either.

Are you kidding? Brandon will be back, despite the fact he is due $11 mil in his contract year..

What makes you think otherwise? Do we have a MLB ready 2B on the farm? no. Much less an All-Stare/GG caliber one. Speak nothing of his leadership and clubhouse presence.

I frankly hope we sign him up for another 4 years.

Haha yes, actually we do.

Who do you speak of that can come in and replace BP's production/defense and why isn't he here now?

Enlighten me.

Certainly you don't mean Zach Cozart.

Nice player. However don't kid yourself into thinking he is ready to start at 2b next year.

Did I say that we have a BP type ball player down there? No. But we certainly have a few guys who could step up and get the job done. Valaika and Cairo could certainly get it done for a cheaper price.

Cairo is a good Utility man, but I wouldn't want him as a platoon player.

I wrote Valaika there first for a reason. ;) He seemed to do a good job for the reds at second this year, and he is young. I can easily see him starting on the 2011 Opening Day roster.

I would mind seeing him there. Stats in Louisville for this year.

Player G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO
Chris Valaika 118 424 49 129 28 2 4 53 173 19 72

SB CS OBP SLG AVG
3 3 .330 .408 .304

Promising player no doubt, but no BP even by a long shot. I believe BP is worth the money. Proven GG All-Star caliber player. We want to win next year also right?

Is Valaika as good as BP? No.

Is BP worth $11M? Not in my opinion.

I'll take Valaika at the minimum, trade Phillips for salary relief, and use the savings in other areas of need.

Just my opinion.

I concur. I like Phillips and everything but he isn't worth $11 million. If they can get someone to send some prospects for him, he is gone.

No player is "worth" his salary, but I think the Reds are better off keeping an infield with Votto, Rolen and Phillips. I don't know what they are going to do in the OF, but I really don't see Stubbs or Bruce leaving anytime soon. This team may come back almost exactly the same next year, just without Harang, Edmonds and Nix (Cabrera and Gomes maybe). I would love that. Favorites to repeat in the Central.:beerme:

It's frustrating to watch Brandon lately, but lets not forget he's an all-star. We just need him to revert back to the player he was prior to the all-star break. I'm sure no one was wanting to get rid of him then.

Valaika is never going to be the defender Phillips is but in time I think he could easily out hit him.

why the hate for Brandon...he's been bad lately, he is still an all star and don't think we should trade him unless we get a good deal for a left fielder we could use next year. That being said I dont see gomes, cabrera, harang, and one of our catchers coming back since we have devin waiting in the wings

Gomes replaced by Heisey
Edmonds = retire
Harang - contract bought out
Bray - released
Fisher - released
Hernandez - replaced by Merresco
Homer - traded away

Your kidding right? I like Valaika, but he is no where near phillips and Cairo? Next thing you will say is that Malloney will be the number 2 starter next year...

I see that happening after the 2011 season, not this offseason.

I think Hernandez still has 1 year left on his contract, which may mean 1 year of AAA for Mes. This looks pretty close.

I think if the rookie really does well in ST that they will look to deal Hernandez or buy his contract out.
