That was a real Sunday special that Sparky put out there. They got the job done though. By this time the Reds had the NL West clinched. So Sparky could really get his players well and rested for the playoffs. They clinched around September 10th that season. At the time it was the earliest date on the calendar that anyone had ever clinched a pennant.
