Smoky Burgess was 4-for-4 with a pair of three-run homers and 6 RBI's. Art Fowler pitched a four-hit shutout to get the win for the Reds. The only hits for the Cubs were back-to-back singles by Ernie Banks and Randy Jackson leading off the second inning, a one-out single by Jackson in the fourth, and a two-out single by Eddie Miksis in the fourth. The Reds concluded the season in fifth place in the NL with a 75-79 record, finishing 23.5 games behind the Dodgers.
