Just wondering...

It certainly SHOULD...but it won't. School night.

Not even close and where is the less than 20K option?

mbgrayson
09-28-2010, 09:33 AM
I picked the lowest option too. Would have picked 15 to 20 K.

It's a school night, and there is no big rivalry with Houston. Yes, they may clinch, but I just don't think people will want to spend their money to see it.

I think anyone with available funds is more likely to buy playoff tickets.

No, there is probably some football on that needs some watching

It should. If I didn't think I was bad luck (see attendance record below) I'd go.

The half-price student tickets may help in the way of a couple thousand tickets. Many of my fellow Reds fans up in Dayton are going to be headed down. I would guess mid-20s but that might be overly-optimistic. Either way, I'm pumped to be going to my first Reds' game since I moved up to UD! I would love to be there for when they clinch their first playoff birth since I was 7. Night class tomorrow night so it's all on Volkie to pull this one out.

Not even close and where is the less than 20K option?

According to an Enquirer blogger, Reds ticket office said online sales were 'brisk' overnight. Whatever that means. The way I tell is I go to reds.com and act like I'm purchasing 10 tickets in different sections to see where it puts me. The best available keeps getting further and further away, but there's no way it will sell out. I'd guess 20-25K...

I have 3 exams this week, or I'd be down there tonight. It's an excuse, I know... but I got 'lots of studying to do. I'll be lucky to catch much of tonight's game on TV. :(

I believe the comfortable weather, student discount tickets, the tweetup discount tickets and .... the chance to see this franchise clinch it's first division title in 15 years will drive attendance over 30K! :)

I'm trying to talk my wife into going but she doesn't like ballgames unless its a nice warm-to-hot summer evening.

I may have to call in a favor and owe her one which is always treacherous. I'm debating if its worth it or not. Last time I did that I sat through 2 hours of Food Network's Sandra Lee.

Nope it won't sell out, and we shouldn't be surprised. It doesn't reflect poorly on the fans in any way that they can't stop their lives and go down to purchase tickets to a specific game.

Operator nailed it, he has three exams this week.

The fact of the matter is there is a limited pool of fans who are able to drop everything on less than a week's notice and pay to go to a game. The pool of people has already been hit up multiple times this season. The Cubs games sold out, probably 20,000 additional people showed up for Pete Rose's night, The Cardinals games were almost sold out, the Braves weekend games almost sold out, the Rockies series after the all star break had pretty good attendance.

If you have a pool of say 100,000 fans willing and able to go to just say, "hey let's go to the old ballyard tonight," I'm willing to guess a high percentage of them already have done so. Multiple times.

If they had the means to purchase more tickets, they would have purchased a set at the beginning of the year, or purchased season tickets. The fact that they can't show up every night and change their plans doesn't make the fan base in Cincinnati bad.

As the team continues to perform well, the season tickets will begin to grow, and the pool of fans that will go to one game will now go to two, the ones that didn't care to go to any will go to one.

Just like building a baseball team, building a fan base back is a slow and frustrating process. I think the Reds are on the right track though.

Well I should have prefaced it by saying that since I live 5 hours away and spent a thou.........I was planning on coming for the whole series. Drive, hotels, tickets.......it adds up.

Now if I lived close you are correct.....$5 and I would have been there.

The way this season has gone my prediction is that Edinson lays an egg tonight against the Stros in front of 35K and the Reds get blown out 12-1. Then they will win tomorrow 7-3 in front of 15K...:)

Then they will win tomorrow 7-3 in front of 15K....and it won't matter too much since the division was wrapped up the previous night. :)

My prediction is that the Reds clinch tonight despite losing 5-1. At about 11:15 the Cardinals/Pirates game becomes final with Pittsburgh winning 5-3 thus giving Cincinnati thier divisional championship.

I think people ripping Cincy fans needed to realize people in this economy are saving money for playoff tickets and for moments like tonight. Going to a Tuesday night game against the Dbacks might have precluded some people from attending tonight or going to a playoff game.

That's why I don't bash people because I have no idea their life circumstances.

I was at the Cubs game on Sat. They announced that it was the 7th straight year drawing over 3M people. The only team in Chicago to ever do that. It was quite impressive.

To be honest anytime the Reds get over 30K on a week day night thats all gravy to me.
