Pedro Gomez picked the Reds to lose to the Yankees in 5 games in the World Series. The other 26 ESPN writer/reports picked them to lose in the first round to the Phillies. 18 of the 27 writers picked the Phillies to win the whole thing, while 4 picked the Rays, 2 each picked the Yankees and Giants and one writer picked the Rangers.

Well then, you're sayin' we have a chance?

Our bosses said we had to pick a team from every market. None of us wanted to pick Cincinnati, so we had to draw straws, and I got the shortest one.

I'm sure Barry Bonds would like to terminate him. ;)

The Reds knocking The Phillies off their perch will be all that much sweeter then. I saw those picks last night and just laughed. Way to go out on a limb, ESPN.

If the Reds get to the World Series, they would kill the Yankees. I'm not sure how anyone could pick the Yankees with a straight face -- but then ESPN employees probably can't name more than 2 or 3 other teams in MLB.

1990 A's were the favorites over the Reds.

Why is this a surprise? This is the first Reds playoff series in 15 years. The Phillies are two time NL Champs, posted the best NL record this season, have home field advantage, and oh yea have the NL Cy Young pitcher going in games 1 and 4.

If a writer didn't predict the Phillies to win over the Reds I think you would have to question their journalistic credibility.
