After three consecutive rainouts in Boston, the Series resumed with one of the greatest games ever played. The Red Sox jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Reds tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth. The Reds then took a 6-3 lead with two in the seventh and one in the eighth on a solo homer by Cesar Geronimo, but the Sox tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth on a three-run pinch-hit homer by former Red Bernie Carbo. The game then went into extra innings, and came to an end on a dramatic home run off the foul pole in the twelfth inning by Carlton Fisk, tying the best-of-seven Series at 3-3.
