Looks like Nix chose to go the free agent route this year.

Balentine moves up a slot on the depth chart in my book :D

I'm fine with it. Laynce is chronically injured all the time. It's like deja vu all over again. ;)

Nix has value when he plays. Maybe this opens the door for someone else.

He was given the same opportunity to make the team that he has had the past two years. A minor league contract with an invite to spring training. With his power numbers down (15 homers down to 4) this past season, and his being a constant injury concern I would say that he got what his performance dictated. Unfortunately that wasn't good enough. It was his decision to make and he chose the free agent route. It will be interesting to see who takes his spot in the outfield.

With the depth Cincy has right now, I can't blame him for wanting to see if he can catch on somewhere that will give him a better chance to play.

Who knows, he may do like last year if no one picks him up and sign a ML contract back with us.

I was really hoping to have Laynce around next year. It's really hard to replace what he gave us for what he made.

Nothing hurt here, easy to replace.

Well, you know Stubbs is a lock in CF and Bruce is a lock in RF. The rumor mill has the Reds seeking an everyday quality LFer, and possibly leadoff man. Unless he's traded Heisey, along with Gomes (option picked up) are obviously the other 2 outfielders in the mix.

I think Nix is just looking for a better opportunity.

I hate this. I liked him. I work at the school where he played HS baseball. This stinks if you ask me. Balentien is not the answer, now where do we go for a lefty off the bench?

Point taken, but I think in terms of maybe this could clear the way for a LF to come out of the Reds system and fill the desperately needed lead off ?

If Nix can't be replaced with an upgrade, Walt would consider himself having fallen down on the job.

I like him ok, but he seemed to always be too stiff to swing and adjust in the swing. Dont see this as a loss.

Exactly. And room has to be made for the youngblood ready to step up.
