They were discussing other teams in the NL Central while interviewing Jay Bruce, and said the Cardinals added Theriot, and Berkman. The Cubs added Pena, and the Reds havent really added anything. They asked him what his thoughts were on their offseason and he said "They've done exactly what they should do, they've shown that they can win with what they have, and no offense to the other teams in the central, but they showed they couldn't"

I just thought that was a great quote, and thought i'd share, lol.

Well, he makes alot of sense.

Who did we lose that mattered? Harang and Lincoln come off the books, and we know longer have to be loyal to Harang for his years of anchoring a bad team, by allowing him one of the starting spots. So the starting rotation probably actually is better this year.

Rhodes may be gone. And I think he has been a steal. But I don't feel it's a big black hole that is unfillable. Hopefully he re-signs, but if not, we will survive.

Ramon is back. Cairo is back. OCab isn't........but I don't feel it is a great loss. I think Janish can fill his shoes, and there are continuing rumors about acquiring a SS, so you never know what will happen.

But the infield, outfield, and catching are the same except for SS.
The starting pitching is probably stronger than ever.
The bullpen is basically the same minus Rhodes, but plus Willis (lefthanded specialist).

I'd love to see them replace Gomes with something better. And a leadoff would be nice.

But we won the NL Central with the same team. The other teams are scrambling.

I think Walt will come up with a bat before spring training starts. He'll swing a deal at some point, but right now all the teams have sky high asking prices for players hoping someone will bite. As we get into '11, the prices will drop and I really think he'll pull the trigger on somone.

I completely agree with what Bruce says. Everyone else has to catch us. I'm with you, Girevik, Walt is going to get us a deal for either a SS or LF who will be a significant upgrade at either position. Not saying Janish is terrible, I just have a feeling if we get a SS, he's going to be really good.

This Team gets Reyes to Play SS, you will see Joey Votto with 140+ RBI and that trickles down the rest of the lineup as well...

Replacing Janish in the 8th hole with Reyes in the Lead off Spot makes the entire Lineup even more reliable than last years...

The other teams are out making moves to better their team. The one thing I didn't agree with Bruce on was his statement that we are good now (from the standpoint we don't need additions/change). The other central teams are gunning for us next year and we still could use some help for SS/LF as well as a true leadoff hitter.

Was glad to see Bruce get some TV time between the coverage of the Philly pitching rotation and anything Yankee oriented.

I disagree. Is Jay's ultimate goal just to win the NL Central? Are you serious? That's some low expectations from a guy who cost the team Game 2 in the playoffs.

We played an easy interleague schedule.
We played horrible against the good teams.
We won the in the worst division in baseball.
We just paid a #3 pitcher 12 million a year for a small market team for 3 years.
Scott Rolen was very fortunate to be as healthy as he was last year.
We played as an 'underdog' for most of the year.
We were no-hit in the playoffs for the first time in. . . . . .????

WHile I don't believe the other teams marketedly improved themsleves in the division, I do think injuries will be a huge factor for everyone. IMO, Homer Bailey and the other young pitchers are going to be the key for this team next year because I don't think our offense will be nearly as good.

The context of the interview was discussing moves within the NL Central, and being competitive within the division. He said int he interview they didn't reach where they wanted to be.

Jay didn't cost us game 2. and here was a quote from his press conference the other day: ďItís not just the contract. Itís not just the money. When you have a group of dedicated people, itís something you want to be a part of. Iím very happy. Itís just getting started and itís going in the right direction. Thereís goals weíre trying to get to here. We took a step in the right direction last year, but thereís a lot of work to be done. Iím excited to be part of that.Ē

I would say he and the rest of the team have some bigger goals than another N.L. Central crown.

I agree the interleague schedule was moosh...

Your Best point was the 2nd one where the Reds played awful against teams with a Winning Record... I agree with that 100% - Meaning this team needs an ACE pitcher. (EV, Cueto, are not anywhere close to being an ACE)

I disagree with the National League Central being the worst. Any time the Cardinals with their lineup and front 2 starting pitchers are in the division, it will be a dogfight, as it was literally...

On your point of the team paying Bronson 12 Million for being a 3 hole pitcher? I disagree, BA has won at least 15 games each of the last 3 seasons and won a career high 17 Last year while eating Innings... if Cliff Lee is worth 24 Million, Bronson is worth 11-12 Million - Also what does that tell you about this teams pitching staff as far as starters... No Clear Ace. No Pitcher that makes other teams plan against because they are a dominant front line starter. Walt can say all the time that the FO is happy with the teams roster but this team was lucky last year. They literally only beat the teams that they were supposed to Beat (Sub .500 Teams) which is a good first step in turning the corner to becoming a competetive team...

Scott Rolen provided more by just being in the Clubhouse than his offensive production... Very Important addition to the team. What does this tell you about the team? IMO the Reds could use another All-Star Vetran to stabalize the team... Rolen leads by example. I think the team could use a vocal leader. So Scott Rolen may have been the most Important Player on the team outside of Joey Votto.

Under Dog is just commentator talk. Has nothing to do with it.

Yes, this team was Dreadfull in the No hitter in the Playoffs and made the team look like a joke. Joey got nothing to hit because he has no protection. Jay Bruce is a Future Stud but this team needs another Thumper in the Line Up....

So yes some of your points are valid, others are well pointless.

Class guy. Like the way he handled the question about making the city forget about Lark & the boys from '90. Showed great respect.
