Red Reporter did a very nice interview with Sean Casey. Check it out at the link below.
Ken: Do you have any plans to try to manage or join a front office some day?
SC: Actually I just signed on to do 15 games for the Reds this year as a color guy. [ed.: Yay!] I’ll get a chance to get in the booth and see how that goes. I think I’ll be doing the games from April 5 through April 7, and later some games in Pittsburgh and in Cincinnati. We’re still figuring that out. I don’t have any plans of getting back in the field. Will I someday? Maybe, but I can’t see it happening any time soon.

Awesome! Can't wait to hear the Mayor try his hand at color.

Dear God. I love Casey and all but how many announcers do we need?

Variety is the spice of life. I like the idea of "guest announcers". Keep it interesting.

This is good. I see Casey as an enthusiastic, positive guy without an ego problem -- and he knows hitting. Works for me.

He did a few Red Sox games when Remy was sick. He doesn't pause much.

How cool would it be to see The Cowboy and Casey go at it-- add in Thom and the Bow-Tie Bandit and you've got a very nice quartet to run out there for TV and radio.

Agreed. I think I'd rather listen to Sean Casey than Jeff Brantley.

I saw Casey do a couple games for MLB network last season and honestly, he was pretty enjoyable. Seems like a win/win to me.

He certainly has the gift of gab. I would think he would be at least entertaining if not very good.

Casey has been a guest in the booth a handful of time over the past few years. During those spots he has been very good. But I do have my concerns about how well he will do over the course of an entire game. It should be interesting none the less.

I'd rather listen to the sound of my skull banging on a wall than listen to Brantley.

I like the Cowboy -- but Marty and the Mayor has a fun ring to it.

I just hope he doesn't have alot of wires attached to him when he calls the game. With all that hugging he does it could end up being a tangled mess.

best ex-Red I've heard is Paul O'Neill...love to have that guy. He gives alot of insight to what is probably going on in the clubhouse and other inside knowledge and with Casey being semi recently retired he should be able to do much the same

I like it alot and I would love to see him knock Paul Keels out of a job.He is by far the worst imo.

This must mean that The Kent Mercker Experience may be over.
Which is too bad.
I'm OK with Brantley as a color man. On TV.
Not doing 3 innings of PBP on Radio

I wouldn't bet against Mercker not coming back.
Agreed about Brantley.

With Thom covering other sports its going to be something to get used to.
I wonder though if this interferes with MLB Network.

Brantley repeats the same phrases over and over and some people don't like his southern twang, but at least he talks about the game.

Will be good hearing Case on the broadcasts. The only bad news is that it's only 15 games. But I'll take it.
And when Brantley talks about food, it's usually because someone asked him about it. "So, Cowboy, how many scoops of the UDF tonight?"

A lot of things about Brantley annoy me, his southern twang is not one of them.

Yeah, it's not like you won't hear one similar to it all over town anyway.

Point taken, but generally more baseball related content than Marty.
At least we don't get a whole inning summary of whatever golf match is going on from Brantley.

Imagine if they had George Grande come back to call some games with Casey. Sunshine and lollypops for everybody!

I don't know. Brantley has a weird Mississippi/Texas accent. Around Cincinnati, we got more Appalachian than anything.
Brantley doing PBP is like listening to a chimpanzee recite Shakespeare. As a color guy, he's all right.
I like Sean. I think he'll be good. He is a motor mouth though.

The blues is the blues to me, Chicago or Texas... same goes for southern accents, I'm from faygo country.

Yeah as PbP guy he's an awesome analyst.

There are announcers that work at improving their ability to do play-by-play. Play by play is not an easy thing to do. I get the feeling that Brantley just 'wings it" and hopes it comes out ok. When he gets the call right, I'm pleasantly surprised because it's a pretty rare event. If there's a runner on and the batter hits a ball to the rightfield corner- there ain't no way Ole Cowboy gets the call right. As a listener, you gotta infer a good deal of information and hope that he comes along after the play and cleans up the mess he made.
He hasn't improved in his ability to call play by play since his arrival. I was hoping his pride would kick in and he'd learn the craft and improve, but when in doubt he falls back into his Old Cowboy crap that (hopefully, for his sake) covers up his lack of skill and preparation.
Maybe they got rid of Keels and are going to let Welsh do some extra PBP. Anyone know is Keels is coming back?

IDK, but Welsh's pbp was far better than Keels. Seriously.

That's being nice. Keels is not a good baseball announcer. Welsh is pretty good. He's probably my favorite Reds announcer.

BTW, Casey will indeed be on the TV side. Per Sheldon. (http://marksheldon.mlblogs.com/archives/2011/01/sean_casey_on_reds_tv.html)

Hopefully this means no more Keels!
We finally got rid of Grande ... and now if we get rid of Keels (replacing him with Casey no less) ... I'm going to be one happy Reds fan. Having Keels do a handful of games last year put a damper on the "No More George Grande" party. Keels was just as bad, just in a different way.

Great news!
I'll bet he grows into a great announcer. It takes time. He's improved a lot, as has Larkin, with all the air time he's getting at MLB network.

KEELS IS GONE!! (http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110113/SPT04/101140348/1071/Kelch-adds-television-work-to-announcing-duties) Per arkimadee in tSD, per cincinnati.com. Kelch will take over as backup TV announcer. Excellent!!
Keels was dropped because of scheduling conflicts as Ohio State's football play-by-play announcer, according to Farmer.
Yeah, right, that's it.
