From Larry Dobrow of CBS Sports:

Now that Bronson Arroyo has pitched capably while afflicted with mono, Dusty Baker will run starters out to the mound even when they're plagued by major ailments: Travis Wood with nasal tapeworms, Aroldis Chapman with goutabetes, etc. ... Drew Stubbs got on base a mere seven times in 13 tries, calling into doubt his fitness as both a leadoff hitter and a man. ... Miguel Cairo was called upon to participate in two games.

It was a well-rounded weekend in Cincinnati. In three wins against the Brewers, seven Reds combined for eight home runs. Travis Wood and Bronson Arroyo each shined with quality starts on the mound, and the last two victories were error-free.

*The Reds move up from ninth. I put little stock in power ranks however the last statement "and the last two victories were error-free" caught my eye. Defense around the bigs has been abysmal through the first set of series.

We look like a top 5 team....thus far, anyway.

I love how Cincinnati is really excited for their Reds, and you've gotta love how we've started this year!!!!

While I'm reading this thread Cubs make multiple errors to allow a Dback inside the park homer. :yikes:

Right now I think we deserve to be #3 behind the Rangers and Phillies. This team has earned it.

They've earned a spot in meaningless power rankings? I don't think that's what they're playing for...:p:

Five errors for the Astros Tuesday.

None for the REDS.

I'm a firm believer in Defense. I fell it's highly underrated by Managers, G.M., and fans.

The more Janish and Heisey (not at the expense of Stubbs or Bruce) get into games, the more confidence our pitchers will have and the more this team will win.

And, less than 50% of errors show up in the boxscore. There's a ton of defensive errors that show up as hits because someone just can't get to the ball or they put themselves in the wrong position, or a pitcher adjusts because of who he has behind him, and any number of other reasons.

I live down here in Louisville and I must say that this town is buzzing about the Reds as well. Also, I think it'd be safe to assume that folks a little on down the road in Lexington are intrigued by the club's fast start too.
