Sappelt, who went 3 for 4 and raised his batting average to .500, recalled one of Willis' performances from spring training.

“He was completely dominating,” Sappelt said. “We faced a Double-A team, and I think he broke about seven bats, and they were just looking terrible. It was one of those things where I almost wanted to get a hot dog and a chair and sit out in the outfield.”

Sappelt is a funny dude!

I will be watching the Bats game today. Should be interesting to see how Willis does. I wasn't too impressed with him in the spring, but, it was spring training so we shall see.

Don't like seeing Yonder playing first base. I want him to get as many reps in left field as possible.

Mudcats were losing 11-3. I left in the middle of the seventh.

We left a little early as well. This one was over after a few short innings. Phipps is really struggling at leadoff. He left at least six runners stranded. Twice he was up with the bases loaded and produced nothing.

He's not alone for the most part in this order but at .118 as leadoff, it hurts.

I did shake hands with Hotchkiss on the way out and wish him well in tomorrow's start. He's got to avoid an 0-5 start at home for this team. An 11:00 start should be fun.

Jeez louise, shades of last year. The Dayton bullpen gave up nine runs in the 7th and 8th innings of a 12-9 loss. Tim Crabbe and Porfirio Martinez took the beating. Donald Lutz had three hits, including the HR.

Bakersfield finished off game one, 13-7. The first eight guys in the lineup (Means, Fellhauer, Rodriguez, Richburg, LaMarre, Campbell, Greene and Fleury) all had multiple hits. Twenty hits total. LaMarre homered. Sulbaran's five innings were good enough.
