Bottom of the 4th:

Cozart continues to struggle popping out. Now 1 for 15 on the season.
Yonder singles down the left field line.
Frazier, robbed by the wind of a homer his first time up, grounds to the 3rd baseman who makes a diving stop and then throws wild and hits Frazier. Runners on the corners with one down.
Hermida strides to the plate. Wild pitch scores Alonso and my radio feed just died.
Hermida in the hole to right. Frazier moves on to third. Runners on first and third for Devin Mesoraco.

Just curious, I don't see Smith on the top 50 list anywhere, is he overlooked or just having a couple of good games?

Supposedly has a good fastball/curve combo. He only pitched 33.2 innings last season and that was as a reliever which is probably why he didn't receive any recognition around here. If he keeps this up he'll definitely jump up the rankings.

Last year Smith was used as a reliever after being drafted. He has a good fastball and a very good curveball that is a legit out pitch. Also throws two other pitches, but is mainly a FB/CB guy. The strikeouts aren't a surprise. He has quality stuff. His mechanics are a tad bit of a concern though. They are a bit max effort IMO. Could lead to him heading back to the bullpen in the long run. But either way, his arm is legit.

The first time I recall seeing him touted on this board was when redsof72 posted the position previews for Dayton a few weeks ago. For a lot of us, he was probably lost in the shuffle last year among the many lower-level relievers who put up nice numbers. He's been quite the nice surprise.

Smith has made two starts and in 12 innings, allowed 3 hits, three walks, 15 strikeouts. Two runs (one came on a dropped fly by Duran). ERA of 0.75. FB 88-92, very good curve. Also note that they picked him to get the opening night start on a staff with some pretty good other options.

Hamilton is so quick and can cover so much ground in a short time that sometimes he winds up in some unusual places (for a shortstop) with the ball. He will field a ball in a place that you don't normally see a shortstop. He had a play tonight where he went to his backhand side into shallow left field, fielded a ball with both feet on the outfield grass in the hole, and threw out the hitter with a strong throw. He had another play where he went hard in and to his right, fielded the ball, dodged the third baseman, who was trying to go to his left to field the ball, and threw across his body to first to get the hitter.

Arm strength is good.

From the Louisville Courier-Journal:

“I'd never faced him or heard anything about him,” Mesoraco said. “I said, ‘I'm going to do what I do best.' That's sit on a first-pitch fastball and get a good swing on it. That's exactly what happened.”

Mesoraco said sweeping a doubleheader “takes some heart. The thing is that the pitching kept us in the game.”
