Dayton is being delayed, but it sounds like it isn't in danger of being postponed.

Cueto gets a ground out, fly out, single on a grounder up the middle and a ground out on a nice play up the middle by Chris Valaika.

Another nice game for Mesoraco as he went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Sappelt was 1-for-5.

Cody Puckett's three-run homer in the first gave Carolina an early lead. It's now 3-2 in the third, with Dallas Buck pitching for the Mudcats. First game of a doubleheader at Huntsville.

Edit: It's now 5-3, Huntsville, after three complete.

Seeing Mike Costanzo in the Carolina lineup at third base reminded me . . . On the Reds' telecast today, they mentioned all the top talent at Louisville and showed a visual of a diamond with the Bats' regulars in their positions. They had Costanzo at third base and Frazier in left field. That put Alonso at first base. Not surprisingly, the guy left out, again, was Dorn. Poor guy seems invisible.

Puckett has now added a 2-run homer to tie the game 6-6 in the fifth. Arrendondo pitched two innings in relief of Buck.

Not quite sure how you score two runs on a ground out, first baseman to pitcher. But that's how Huntsville won the first game, 8-6.

I noticed that too. Why wouldn't they have just pulled a lineup from today or yesterday to figure out who is actually on that team? Surprised they didn't have Maloney down as a starter there.

Andrew (A.J.) Means and Eric Campbell have home runs for the Bakersfield boys, who lead 10-7 after four.

Best part of the whole thing? Mike Piazza pitched in the game. No, not that one.

So, Yasmani Grandal just doubled and began grabbing at his hamstring. Good sign is, he did just try to job to test it out... which means it probably isn't really serious.

Rare play to say the least. The guy did get the two RBI for driving in the runs on what appeared to be a double. The Mudcats pitcher stepped off the mound and threw over to first base on an appeal that the hitter did not touch first base before going to second. The umpire apparently was paying attention and agreed. The hitter was called out but the two RBI stand. Don't see that very often.

Piazza did play in Bakersfield, however. It was his first big season, and the one that put him on the Dodgers' radar.

Holy cow, Bakersfield ended up losing that game 24-19. Inland Empire had 31 hits. Never seen anything like that. There were 49 hits in the game, total. Andrew Means had five and Eric Campbell, who is now batting .559, had four. Poor Scott Gaffney gave up six runs without getting an out.
