Billy Hamilton hit a double to the wall as a RHH to lead off for Dayton. Dominic D'Anna doubled with a blooper to drive him in. Dayton up 1-0. Game is on Milb.tv.

The Great Lakes center fielder almost gets hit by a line drive he lost in the sun that goes for an RBI "double". Dayton up 2-0.

Is it just the camera angle, or is Cueto throwing a curveball tonight? He hasn't thrown a curveball before this year.

I don't have Milb.tv yet this year.

Tim Crabbe loses his no hitter with 2 outs in the 5th inning on a ball up the middle. Billy Hamilton made a great diving stop on the ball, but should have probably held onto the throw. He sailed it wide of the bag, then Tucker Barnhart threw it into center field and the runner got to third. Next hitter grounded out to end the inning.

Lots of time for a big comeback. :-)

After two, 2-0 Carolina. Mudcats left the bases loaded in the second. This has been one of their biggest issues, not getting the timely hit when it would make a big difference. Too many LOB.

I still feel good about it. But when two guys are not where they should be, it makes everyone else look worse because they aren't where they should be either.

Not a pretty game tonight. Too bad Corky was catching - if he was on the bench, I think Sweet would have pitched him instead of Griffin. He said he was next in line after Cochran on Wednesday, so probably the second time this week he came close to taking the mound. I want to see that happen SO much....

Yikes, Grandal homered again. It's 7-0 in the sixth. Eric Campbell also has three hits. Janke has fanned seven through five very fine innings.

Janke went six hitless innings with eight strikeouts. Inland Empire scored off Tyree Hayes in the seventh. It's 8-1. Grandal is four for four. Andrew Means, batting .404, left the game after being hit by a pitch on the arm.

Now, Stephen Hunt just hit second home run in his first two games to make it 10-1.

Heck of a game for Grandal...4-for-4 with two home runs (#4, 5), a double, walk, and HBP. On base in all six plate appearances. He's now hitting .341 with a 1.258 OPS in 54 plate appearances. It probably won't be long before he's in Double-A.

Campbell is 26, so he needs to be challenged. But Costanzo is ahead of him and mashing as well. There will need to be either a position switch or an injury to get him to AA, IMO.

Campbell turns 26 in August.

I agree that Campbell needs to be sent up and I see that Griffey played him at 2B one game this year. But really it looks like Carolina could use another bat in the outfield. (and catcher)

The Bats were 13 back to start July last year and won the division. Compared to that, the Mudcats coming back to win the division or wild card seems more then possible, especially with the players mentioned above.

Grandal and Fellhauer would be fine choices to get bumped up, and I expect them to get moved fairly soon.

There is still hope for the first half I guess. The second half starts June 23.

Well, as noted earlier there are the halves rather than the full season.... but the other big difference was talent. Last year's Bats had a ton of it. Carolina doesn't have nearly as much.
