How is Dave Sappelt's base running progressing?

I see that he has all of two steals and has been caught stealing two other times so I'd surmise from those stats that he hasn't improved much but stats can be deceiving. Heck, Alonso even has two stolen bases.

Justin Freeman gives up a home run. Tied at 5-5 in the seventh.

There must be a misprint. You wrote that Cozart actually got a hit. ... Wait, he got two hits!

Great to see Fred Lewis doing well. Sounds like he's very close to being MLB-ready. I know they said they wanted him to get 50 minor league ABs, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's called up before he reaches that. I like Gomes, but he's not an everyday player. Need that platoon with Lewis.

Bakersfield is tied 3-3 after seven. Mace Thurman threw two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts. Everybody in the lineup has a hit except Grandal. With an RBI, Stephen Hunt has 14 of them in the five games he's played this year.

I know it may be rushing him, but man this team really seems to need a spark right now. And with Rolen out for who knows how long I'd really like to see them give Sappelt a shot. I really don't see what it could hurt.

I've never been one to believe that bringing someone up for a shot kills them long-term if they prove they aren't MLB ready. I think eventually talent rises, and honestly I really don't see the argument against giving Sappelt a shot right now.

Bakersfield went ahead with two in the eighth--big hit was a double by Eric Campbell--but Doug Salinas couldn't hold the lead and it goes to the bottom of the ninth tied 5-5.

It seems like Carolina just finds ways to lose. Tabor walked three guys in the ninth and the rest is history.
