I just thought I'd remind everyone what we have right now and how special it is to get to watch Joey Votto go out there in a Reds uniform.

Right now through April, Joey's triple slash is .379/.509/.655. That's right, he's been getting on base in more than half of his plate appearances. So far in April, he's striking out at a rate of 13.8%. That's about 7% less than his career rate. And for your sabermetricians, he's already compiled a 2.1 WAR.

For those of you that don't know what WAR is, an average MLB position player puts up 2.0 WAR over the course of an entire season. Joey's done that... in the month of April. He could not come to the plate once for the rest of the entire year and he's already done more than half of the first basemen in the league.

And aside from that, he's apparently good looking enough to make my girlfriend giggle every time he comes to the plate.

Enjoy the ride, folks.

Amen bro. Glad they didn't trade him for Erik Bedard 5 years ago.

Let's not forget that insane .496 wOBA, and from the defensive side, 2.8 UZR so far (early-season UZR is very flaky, but hey, we're having fun here). 28.9 LD%, 20.5 BB%, and has cut down his K% to 13.8% (last year: 22.9%). It all adds up to a very, very impressive April.

I was just thinking the same thing. We are seeing one of the best players in baseball right now and likely for many years to come. Doesn't happen often.

Whos Joey Votto? Isn't Scott Hatteberg still playing 1B for the Reds?

I sure wish we had a good hitter hitting behind him. Amazing that he's doing this while not seeing many pitches to hit.
