Mudcats news...

RHP Kyle McCulloch has been reassigned to the Mudcats from Triple-A Louisville. RHP Jeff Jeffords has been granted his release.

McCulloch, who was the Chicago White Sox first round pick in the 2006 draft from the University of Texas, was 0-1 with a 3.08 ERA over eight relief appearances with the Bats in 2011. McCulloch, 26, has been a member of the Birmingham Barons a portion or in full from 2007-2010.

Jeffords held a 7.54 ERA over 10 relief appearances for the Mudcats.

I hope he does well for you down there. He seemed like an explosion waiting to happen in Louisville. Lots of well hit balls that were caught.

BTW: Juan Francisco is supposed to begin his rehab assignment with the Bats tonight in Rochester. He will DH.

Wait, wait, wait. A guy without speed led off, got on base and scored in the first inning? Without a sacrifice bunt? What in the world is going on!?

I happened to be listening last night in the couple of minutes when Rochester put together four straight two-out singles against Herrera to win the game in the 18th. It sounded like none of the balls was well-hit, and two stayed on the infield.

Yep, exactly. The last hit was a flair. Just a string of bad luck.

That bad luck happens a lot to Herrera. That's one reason, IMO, why Herrera is only an emergency backup that can be cut at any time for his place on the 40-man roster.

It stands to reason that his lack of stuff would be extremely susceptible to BABIP nightmares, whereas someone with a modicum of velocity and control will be able to get away with much more.

(Or so this theory goes. Does anyone have any hard proof against?)
