According to MLB Tonight, Pujols went to LaRussa and volunteered to move to 3rd, for the sake of improving the team's defense.

Maybe he should volunteer to play SS instead.

Or 2nd base for that matter

I assume that means letting Berkman play 1st which will help their team defense. Berkman is a trainwreck in RF.

Wow, that is actually very cool of Pujols. That move could really help the Cards.

I heard he actually said everyone else could stay in the dugout and he'd cover every position. He is superman, ya know.

The broadcasters on ESPN said that Pujols doesn't think Cordero tried to hit him and partially because Pujols considers Cordero one of his best friends.

That aspect (friendship) hasn't been mentioned in all the aftermath of yesterday's win.

If a professional pitcher wants to hit a batter, he will hit him so the batter knows it. These guys aren't subtle about stuff like that usually. It was clear that Cordero just threw it inside and it got away a little bit. The Reds/Cards rivalry is beginning to be one of the biggest rivalries in baseball, definitely the most heated. The Cardinals will always look for reasons to get in a fight with the Reds, and I expect a similar reaction from the Reds.

I continue to lose more and more respect for that organization.

Clearly, their classiness left with Jocketty and Castellini.

Larussa is a crybaby punk and the rest of his coaches and players have modeled themselves after him.

I have been begging to get him off of 1st base...that's a place where anybody can play. Berkman is too slow to catch up with balls in the OF.

Cards made their 1st smart move of the year..and how did he play at 3rd? He was very deliberate and careful, actually fielding ground balls with 2 hands.

Of course he was 0 for 4 with another one of his league leading GIDP. Can we trade him for Bruce? Even trade will be fine.

If Pujols can play a decent 3rd, allowing Berkman to move to first, it does improve the defense. Good move by Pujols

I watched is 3B highlights on MLB, everything pretty much routine. Love to see how he handles a liner, or a hot smash. Hope he plays there today.

What to me is key is here is a guy who is willing to do what is best for the team over his own personal stats. Wished Edgar thought that way...

I'm not so sure Pujols is that good of a defensive 3B. He was moved to 1b for some reason. I guess it gets Berkman out of the OF and a better defender in RF, but there's a bunch of defensive shortcomings around that infield.

This should be good.

Beside the potential Pujols-at-3B lowlights, Jay doesn't seem to be a huge offensive threat just needing a position.

Wow, really, its in the press that Edgar doesnt care about his team and is putting his stats first? Gotta link to back that up, I dont subscribe to that paper apparently?

In 2002, Pujols was league-average at 3B. He moved to the outfield and later to 1B when Scott Rolen was acquired from Philly. He was far worse in the outfield than he was at 3B. The biggest reason he said that was to create a spot for Allen Craig, a bat-first guy to get in the game somewhere. Craig had played 3B badly at Memphis, so they were trying him at second to get his bat in the lineup.
