Zach attack. Amid all the talk of Alonso, Frazier and Francisco, the biggest upgrade might be the strong defending Cozart coming up and replacing the auto outs that the Reds have at SS. He started horribly, but he's been quietly hot for a while.

Sounds like the Reds are getting ready for the post memorial day promotions with some extended spring guys getting onto some rosters, others promoted and some journeyman released.

Newton? I heard Carolina drafted him. :)

Maybe but they usually come around once a year so I wouldn't look too much into it.

Muddie you were right. It's Bonifay but I was wrong, it's Ken

Nope, not me. He's actually referring to Bonifay, a special assistant to the GM who lives in Carolina. ;)

Bonifay is a special assisitant to the GM, Jocketty. He was the GM of the Pirates when the Mudcats were in their farm system.

A pretty good first start for Chad "Sharky" Rogers. And strong finishing relief from Jamie Walczak.

I had a good talk with Walt today. In the three years we've been with the Reds, I've never met him. He said that their main focus is making Carolina better.
Also, don't expect anyone big to come up from Bakersfield until closer to the end of the first half (end of June.) He said that once the first half is over we should get a lot of guys from Advanced-A to try and make a second half run.

Oh. I also forgot to mention that Walt seemed very, very interested in having Carolina the High-A affiliate of the Reds come 2013. He said that he hoped the Mudcats would have them back.

Having the Reds back here would be so awesome. Having Cleveland in here for next year is going to be tough.

Eric Campbell is out of the Bakersfield lineup for the third straight day. Stephen Hunt is back in, and, with a double, has his 27th RBI in 25 games. Sulbaran has gone seven innings and the Blaze leads 4-3.

No problem . . . and now the game is tied. Gaffney took over for Sulbaran to start the eighth . . . After the big strikeout game last time, Sulbaran only fanned five today. But he only walked one and allowed two earned runs. It's looking like he may be turning a corner.

Chris Richburg got his fourth hit and the remarkable Stephen Hunt drove him in to put Bakersfield up 5-4 in the top of the ninth . . . Going for the organizational sweep, which, I believe, would be the first of the season. (Not counting the big club, of course. Yeesh.)

Gaffney finished it and Bakersfield wins 5-4, completing a fine day on the farm.
