I would almost have to guess that Edison V. gets optioned or DL, as his turn in the rotation isn't for another 5 days. At that time Willis will be called up. Frazier will stay on the roster until that time.

Just a thought.

too bad he has to go up against the Phillies in his first major league game. He will also be overshadowed by the fact that Chase Utley is coming back for the Phillies.

Willis is not on the 40 man roster, the Reds will have to release someone from the 40 man roster to make room for Willis. Who are you willing to lose for a pitcher that has been horrible for 3 years?

here is the list (and NO they will not release someone from the 25 man roster no matter how bad Gomes and EV have been)

Yonder Alonso
Zack Cozart
Carlos Fisher
Juan Francisco
Todd Frazier
Yasmani Grandal
Jeremy Hermida
Danny Herrera
Mike Leake
Matt Maloney
Kris Negron
Daryl Thompson
Chris Valaika
Philippe Valiquette

and why is Danny Herrera not on the 25 man roster, he has a career 3.64 ERA in 113 games while in the majors

DRH is one guy I'd be pumped to never see wear a Reds uni again.

to add, ERA is one indicator of a pitchers success. ERA also has a lot of luck involved. A better indication of his abilities would be his WHIP (1.49) career and BAA .294.

DRH often times would get a runner or two on base and then another RP would come in and bail him out. Not hurting his ERa in the process.

LF 171

SS 112
2B 37

But why bring someone up before seeing if HI-C or Lewis can do the job

Jordan Smith strands 64%

John Fay has no idea but posted this

One thing that I thought nothing of yesterday, but now I’m wondering about: Edgar Renteria left right after the game and was not in a suit (required for the team plane). Could be something as simple as him going home to take care of a family matter.

The strange thing about Frazier getting called up is that he plays so many positions, we have no idea who that someone has to be sent down could be.

It would seem strange to bring Frazier up for something as short as bereavement as well. Chris V could fill in that role without cutting someone from the 40 man...unless Valiquette is headed to the 60-day.

EV we have been thinking and you are correct this team is just not scoring enough runs. So we are going to add someone who is hitting almost .400 that has 11 HR and 33 RBI. But in order to add this player to the team we are sending your ass back to the minors

It's a little bit creepy that these 2 moves come at the same time as the Bailey/Gomes/PTBNL for Bautista thread in the ORG. Just makes you wonder...

The problem, to me, is that it seems like the trade seems to benefit neither side. The Reds need top of the line starting pitching and cheaper contracts; the Jays need someone with a better track record than Bailey, and certainly someone more valuable than Gomes.

Well, there's no doubt we'd have the best lineup in baseball. 2 MVP candidates (Votto, Bautista), the best 2B in the NL (Phillips), a 30-30 guy (Stubbs), the rising slugger (Bruce), the hottest catcher in baseball and the best backup (Hernanigan) and multiple Gold Glovers of the past and future (Rolen, Janish, Phillips, Bruce). And that's not even counting Mes getting the callup next year.

Our pitching though? Full of holes. Cueto, Arroyo, Wood, Volquez, and Leake/Lecure/Maloney doesn't look nearly as good as it used to.

It would open up a spot for Chapman to slide into the rotation next year.

Question the team has to answer, is whether this is the new Homer Bailey you are going to see every 5th day, or if he's on a roll like he was at the end of 2009.

His trade value is as high as it's been, however the consistency has NEVER been there with Homer. I'm torn as to what to do, but getting the best player in baseball right now for him, signed to a relatively friendly contract would be too much to pass up.

If this was anyway true, I'd do it in a heartbeat

Me too, but I doubt it. The Jays are going to want a lot more for their premier slugger that they just signed to a LTC than a streaky, struggling replacement LF and a 4th pitcher with a few good starts under his belt. I wouldn't be surprised if Grandal or Mesoraco is part of such a trade as well.

Two pitchers down for one up and a position player...when EV's rotation spot comes back around, you would think a PP is going to have to take the bullet.

I would put any trade rumor at less then 10% chance of happening. Plus pitching is not our major need, it's a good bat which is what we need right now.

no, we definately need both

It was said on ORG that the Reds have picked up a pitcher named Stephen Jackson from the Dodgers and assigned him to triple A. They also said his stats are horrible.

Frazier, who is wearing No. 21, estimated he had about 60 members of his family and friends coming to Monday's game. When he got the call, he immediately phoned his parents -- Joan and Charles.

"My mom always goes to sleep early. I knew my Dad would answer the phone," Frazier said. "I was holding it back a little bit, but we were both a little choked up. He said, 'Let me wake up your mother,' and she was ecstatic. It's a great feeling for the family and friends. I've got buddies waiting outside already. They drove down."

2011 Cincinnati Reds

2nd in the league in r/g scored
14th in the league in r/g allowed

This years' pitching staff has sucked so far.

Is there any chance at all that Frazier can play SS? Our current SS is playing at a sub-Taveras level, and may not get any better. Nothing like hitting a guy who is hitting under .200 over the last month in the 2nd spot!

Frazier came up as a SS and played there mainly his first few years I believe. Not sure how he feels at SS now though. Baseball reference shows he played in 2007 and 2008 mainly at SS but since has not played there at all.

Okay, although in the last 3 days Masset & Bray haven't pitched and Cordero & Ondrusek have only pitched 1 inning each? Fisher must be the long man tonight, hopefully the Reds don't need him.
