You can love the guy all you want, but in the end it comes down to numbers. NOW we all know Gomes is a challenge in the field and the reason why he is back was suppose to be due to his bat. Well I challenge anyone to look at the numbers below and tell me how or why this man is still on the roster.

171 Overall (22 for 129)
.138 Home (9 for 65)
.122 May (6 for 49)
.148 vs RHP ( 16 for 108)
.286 vs LHP (6 for 21)
.175 RISP (7 for 40)
.087 w/ 2 out RISP (2 for 23)

No argument here, he isn't helping this team. If I could send him down I would definitely do that rather than just releasing him though, because everyone has seen how streaky he can be. There is always the possibility he could get it back together, and help them again in the future. Right now, he's too much of a liability to keep around though because if he doesn't hit, he isn't good at anything.

Gomes should not be DFA, the Reds still have to pay him if the DFA. It is smarter to DL him that way he can not bite you in the ass why playing for another team this season

I don't think any team would pick him up off waivers if he was...

Right he will clear waivers and then be picked up by a team. If it goes down like that the Reds are on the hook for all but $414500 of his pay

DL makes more sense. There's no harm in trying to help him get his swing back in AAA. If that doesn't work, then we can talk DFA.

"Bite you in the ass"? How, by missing another ball and hitting the catcher by chance.

Back from where? When exactly outside of 2 months last season has this man ever hit? There is nothing to get back, it was never there.

He would be a great Lefthanded PH off the bench.

Career OPS vs. LHP: 0.883

Career OPS vs. RHP: 0.736

It's not rocket science to anyone but Baker.
