Right-handed reliever Clayton Shunick has been promoted from High-A Bakersfield to Double-A Carolina. Shunick is coming "home" as he was drafted in the fifth round in the 2008 draft out of NC State University. This year, Shunick posted a 1.67 ERA in 13 games for the Blaze.

I was just looking at Zack Cozart's line for the season (.282/.327/.436) with ~6% walk rate and 12% K rate (he's ~19% historically) and couldn't help but be reminded of Juan Uribe. I guess that's neither here nor there, but I thought it was an interesting comp.

I am at the Bats game. Reineke was pulled after two good innings. Any word on a reason? Callup?

That would be my guess unless he was hurt.

There are lots of rumors circulating. Dayton had two pitchers warming up to start the game. Same kind of deal as LVL.

Bats down 4 1 in the top of the sixth. Only five hits for the Bats so far. Lehr not pitching well.

Carolina down 2 1 in the top of the fourth. McCulloch is struggling here in the fourth.

Bakersfield starts at 10 eastern. Dayton scoreless through four. Hamilton 0 for 2 to bring his season average to .196. Lohman with Dayton's only hit.

Mes follows up a Hermida double with a double of his own. Bats cut the lead to 4 2.

McCulloch ended up giving up 6 earned in the top of the fourth. Felix Perez is continuing his disappointing 2011 season with an 0 for 2.

Billy Hamilton with his 19th error of the season tonight...

Matthews, Barnhart and Lohman all single to start off the top of the 5th and the Dragons get two. Hamilton had one of the RBI.

Josh Smith pitching another gem for Dayton tonight. 6 IP 2 H 0 ER 5 K. Can we consider him a prospect?

Edd Roush

Hermida with an RBI double in the bottom of the 8th. Louisville trying to rally down 6 3.

Danny Dorn comes through with an RBI but Clevlen makes an out. Bats trail 6 4 heading into the 9th.

Smith is a prospect, but Corcino is the top pitching prospect on the team and in the organization.

Bats add RHP Chris Mobley to their roster in a trade with the Frisco RoughRiders. His stats were better with the Rangers AAA team than this Texas League team. No idea who was traded for him or if it was a cash deal.

BTW Bats lost 6-4.

Yonder continues his hitless streak. 0 for 5 tonight.

72, you just slipped that observation in there, all casual-like. That's a pretty strong declaration, considering the reputations of Guillon, Correa, Lotzkar, Cisco . . . Interesting.

I guess we don't consider Chapman a prospect anymore?

He's got a strong case, but I'm not willing to crown him our best pitching prospect yet. Let's not forget that while Boxberger, while in relief, is still having an excellent season. I'd rank him behind him and Gullion, with Cisco and Correa close behind.

Chapman will obviously be a rookie all year, but he's just a couple days away from not qualifying as a rookie in 2012. In the meantime, I'd still consider him a prospect, personally.

I was not including Chapman. Correa is out of the discussion. I can't comment on the reasons at this time. Lotzkar would be # 1 if he could show that his arm can withstand the stress of pitching, but these are not freak injuries he is trying to recover from. Cisco is already done until 2012. Guillon has had serious bouts of wildness this year in Arizona. I am looking forward to seeing him though. Maybe in the second half. Boxberger...maybe. I have not seen him but I am told he does not have much of a breaking ball, though you have to give him his due for the success he has had this season.

Corcino has been 93-96 with very good secondary pitches. Who else do we have that can say that? There is no one else with that portfolio.

Why is Cisco done? Did I miss something? I won't try to pull the Correa thing out of you, but that's quite a statement. Is he out of the discussion permanently, or just for now? I mean, will he still pitch for the organization?

Bakersfield scored 5 in the first, but is hanging on 6-5 after six. Sulbaran has 7 K.

I would like to know as well.....how he can he be done? When was he hurt?

Nope. He has gone over the days on the 25 man roster to qualify as a prospect anymore.

You're right. I had it in my head that he had been optioned instead of put on the DL.

As for "TINSTAAPP" Tony.....There Is No Such Thing As A Pitching Prospect. I disagree...but that's what it means.

While you may disagree with a literal interpretation, TINSTAAPP serves as a caution that one should expect a surprisingly high fail rate among promising minor league pitchers.

I realize that. I just find it a poor saying to attempt to get that thought across. Because there ARE pitching prospects. They DO pan out. Picking nits I guess.

Even though 72 can't comment, I will "speculate" that he failed test #2. So that'll at least be a 100 days. Probably his career since he hasn't made it outta rookie ball...

That isn't the rumor I heard. I will just leave it at that though.
