I debated posting this in the Minors forum, but when you really think about it, these are more actual baseball human interest stories than minor league stories, although seeing either of these guys beat the odds and actually play professional ball would be amazing.


A college baseball player who was partially paralyzed in an outfield collision this year was selected Wednesday by the Texas Rangers on the third day of Major League Baseballís draft.

Johnathan Taylor, a University of Georgia junior outfielder who is yet unable to walk since colliding with a teammate on March 6, was drafted in the 33rd round.


HOUSTON -- Kind gestures rarely have a place in professional Draft rooms as teams gather the best talent in hopes of maintaining success for years to come.

The Astros took time Wednesday to look away from their big board in the 40th round and select San Jacinto College North pitcher Buddy Lamothe, who was paralyzed in early May after a diving accident at a Texas river.
