Patience at the plate

Does anyone have any stats about pitches taken by us this year? Seems like we're one of the more impatient teams in the league, especially in "big" games...

The last inning was a perfect example of why you preach patience -- get the starter out by raising his PC and get into the 'pen. A F6 on a 2-2 count after a foul or two looks a lot better than an F6 on 0-1.

Good point. And it's against a club that has NOTHING in the pen until Rivera. I thought they'd take a long look at the Nova kid, since they've never seen him, and work the pitch count up.

If you look at Nova's numbers this season he only went 7+ twice before tonight and also has been a high pitch count guy while averaging a little over 2 walks per game.

The approach at the plate tonight was certainly puzzling. Especially considering that Wood did a very good job of keeping the Reds in the game after that lousy 1st. There was no need to be overly aggressive early in the count.
